Our multidisciplinary approach includes a hematologist, adolescent medicine specialist, nurse and social worker all specializing in the care of patients with bleeding disorders.

About 1.6 million women and girls in the United States have an underlying bleeding disorder that causes abnormal bleeding. As part of the hospital’s federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, we are one of the few programs in Florida that provides specialized care for patients with excessive menstrual bleeding and blood disorders. We are also part of the Foundation for Women and Girls with Blood Disorders.
Our multidisciplinary team comprised of hematology and adolescent medicine specialists provides comprehensive care that includes evaluation for bleeding disorders and other reproductive health concerns. We also provide expert diagnostic services to rule out other bleeding disorders or hormonal issues to ensure your child is receiving the right treatment to meet their needs.
Our team also includes a dedicated social worker to help support the well-being of our patients.

What to Expect
During appointments, your child will see both our hematologist and adolescent medicine specialist to minimize the number of appointments needed. Appointments generally last at least an hour and include a comprehensive evaluation and physical exam. Blood work is ordered to ensure accurate diagnosis and identify the cause of your child’s abnormal bleeding. Your child may also need imaging such as a pelvic ultrasound.
Patients are often able to obtain the imaging and labs they need from our specialists at Johns Hopkins All Children’s. We will work with you to provide referrals to the imaging and laboratory services that best meet your needs.
Patients usually have follow-up appointments with our team every 3-6 months, depending on their individual needs.
