Part of our mission in the Pediatric Thrombosis Program is to research and pursue evidence-based treatments for children.

Our hematology-oncology faculty in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Pediatric Thrombosis Program are board-certified in their specialties, have grant funding track records and prior experience as investigators in clinical trials and cohort studies.

Consortiums and Research Studies 

Johns Hopkins All Children's is a member of multiple consortiums and participates in multi-site studies pertaining to patients with thrombosis. The hospital is designated as a Venous Thromboembolism Center of Excellence by the National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) — the very first pediatric hospital in the nation to receive this distinction. 

We are also part of the International Pediatric Thrombosis Network and Children’s Healthcare Advancements in Thrombosis Consortium, which are dedicated to advancing the care of pediatric patients with thrombosis. 

We were also part of the group that developed new evidence-based comprehensive clinical practice guidelines on anticoagulant prophylaxis, or preventative measures, in non-cardiac pediatric patients at risk of VTE. Marisol Betensky, M.D., director of the Pediatric Thrombosis Program, co-chaired the panel of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

Past randomized controlled trials led by Johns Hopkins All Children’s include the groundbreaking Kids-DOTT trial, which found a practice-changing advancement in treatment of children and young adults with blood clots.
