Current Resident Biographies

PGY-1 Pharmacy

  • Dr. Garrett CrawfordDr. Garrett Crawford is originally from Annapolis, Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech and went on to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Dr. Crawford’s professional interest is in infectious diseases. Upon completion of his PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Crawford plans to pursue specialty residency training. His long-term career goal is to practice as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center, where he will have the opportunity to participate in research and precept pharmacy students and residents. In his spare time, he enjoys trying new restaurants, boating, traveling, taking long city walks, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Crawford would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and encouragement.

  • Dr. Katalin GoslingDr. Katalin Gosling is originally from Chatham, New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Bucknell University, followed by her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of New England School of Pharmacy. Dr. Gosling’s professional interests include critical care and infectious diseases. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, she plans to pursue specialty residency training. Her ultimate career goals include practicing as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center with opportunities to precept residents and students. Outside of pharmacy, Dr. Gosling is passionate about the sport of CrossFit and living a healthy lifestyle, and enjoys spending time with her French Bulldog, Riley. Dr. Gosling would like to sincerely thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and encouragement.

  • Dr. Kara KassekertDr. Kara Kassekert is originally from Lino Lakes, Minnesota. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Kassekert’s professional interests include emergency medicine, critical care, and pediatrics. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, she plans to pursue specialty residency training. Her ultimate career goals include practicing as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center with opportunities to precept residents and students. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Albie. Dr. Kassekert would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their never-ending love, support, and guidance.

  • Dr. Ann McArnDr. Ann McArn is originally from Bay Village, Ohio. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University, Raabe College of Pharmacy. Dr. McArn’s interests include pediatrics and oncology. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, she plans to pursue specialty residency training. Ultimately, her goal is to practice as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center. Dr. McArn hopes to be a preceptor in the future and train her dog as a therapy dog. In her free time, she enjoys running, baking, and spending time outside. Dr. McArn would like to thank her family and mentors for their endless support and guidance as she continues through her pharmacy career.

  • Dr. Shannon PurcellDr. Shannon Purcell is originally from Elkhart, Indiana. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Purcell’s professional interests include oncology, transitions of care and medication safety. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Purcell plans to pursue specialty residency training. Her goal is to ultimately practice as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center where she will have ample opportunities to precept pharmacy residents and students. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, exploring the east coast, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Purcell would like to thank her family, friends, mentors, and dogs for their endless encouragement and support.

  • Dr. Michelle WasanDr. Michelle Ann Wasan originally grew up in the Philippines before moving to Renton, WA ten years ago. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy. Dr. Wasan’s professional interests include oncology, pediatrics, and infectious disease. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Wasan plans to pursue a specialized residency program. Her long-term career goals include practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist in an academic medical center, where she will have the opportunity to teach and precept students and residents. In her spare time, Dr. Wasan enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, watching movies and dramas, traveling, and overall exploring new things. Dr. Wasan would like to thank her family, boyfriend, friends, and mentors for their continuous love, support, guidance, and encouragement.

  • Dr. Blair YeskoDr. Blair Yesko is originally from Berlin, MD. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy. Dr. Yesko’s professional interests include cardiology, internal medicine, and transplant. Upon completion of her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Yesko plans to pursue specialty residency training. Ultimately, she would like to practice as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center where she will have opportunities to precept students and residents. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and watching lacrosse or basketball. Dr. Yesko would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued guidance and support.

  • Dr. Josh ZhangDr. Josh Zhang is originally from Columbus, Ohio. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Zhang’s professional interests include oncology, solid organ transplant, and critical care. Upon completion of his PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Zhang plans to pursue specialty residency training. His career goals include practicing as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center while precepting students and residents. In his free time, Dr. Zhang enjoys binge watching Netflix, exploring Baltimore with friends, and chasing his adorable cats Thor and Loki around the apartment. Dr. Zhang would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued support, guidance, and encouragement.

PGY-1 Health System Pharmacy Administration

  • Dr. Erin BallentineDr. Erin Ballentine is from Frederick, Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Cedarville University.  After completion of her BSPS, Erin remained at Cedarville University to earn her Masters of Business Administration concentrated in Healthcare Administration and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree.  Erin is in her first year of the two-year Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency, which includes completing a Master of Science degree in Health Care Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.  Her professional interests include enhancing the quality and safety of patient care, pharmacy practice advancement, and clinical leadership and management. In her spare time, she enjoys running, watching football (go Steelers!), and spending time with her husband and three cats. Dr Ballentine would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their constant support and encouragement.

  • Dr. Alexandra BaranyDr. E. Alexandra Barany is originally from Toronto, Ontario. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Toronto School of Pharmacy and is in her first year of the two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency, which includes completing a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Her professional interests include pharmacy practice advancement, systems-level quality improvement, interprofessional collaborative practice, team science, and leadership development. She currently serves on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders on the Strategy and Industry Disrupters Advisory Group. In her spare time, Dr. Barany enjoys racing triathlons and learning how to cook new recipes. Dr. Barany would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their tireless support, guidance, and love.

PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration

  • Dr. Michelle AzarDr. Michelle Azar is originally from Livonia, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Michigan, followed by her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Azar is in her second year of the two-year Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency, which includes completing a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Her professional interests include enhancing the quality and safety of patient care, pharmacy practice advancement, data analytics, informatics, and leadership and management. She currently serves on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders Advisory Group on Multi-Hospital Pharmacy Executives Committee and on the Vizient Community Pharmacy Business of Pharmacy Enterprise Committee Meeting (BPE) committee. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor adventures, cooking, reading, and traveling to new cities. Dr. Azar would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their endless support and guidance.

  • Dr. Matthew BroadwaterDr. Matthew Broadwater is originally from Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Broadwater is in his second year of the two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency, which includes completing a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. His professional interests include clinical pharmacy management, supply chain management, leadership development, and pharmacy practice advancement. In his spare time, he enjoys playing sports (mostly soccer), watching movies, exploring Baltimore’s restaurant scene, traveling, and spending time with friends. Dr. Broadwater would like to sincerely thank his various mentors for their dedication and guidance, and his family and friends for their constant love and support.

PGY-1 Informatics

Dr. Hai Pham

Dr. Hai Pham is originally from Chicago, Illinois. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. Dr. Pham is currently in his first year of the two-year Pharmacy Informatics Residency. His professional interests include data analytics, development and optimization of clinical decision support tools, and pharmacy technology/automation. In his free time, he enjoys rock climbing, preparing nigiri sushi, watching dramas, and spending time with friends. Dr. Pham would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued encouragement, guidance, and support.

Dr. Hai Pham

PGY-2 Informatics

Dr. Roy Weng

Dr. Roy Weng is originally from Madison, Wisconsin. He completed pre-pharmacy coursework at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UC San Francisco. Dr. Weng is in his second year of the two-year Pharmacy Informatics Residency. His professional interests include optimizing user-centered design of clinical tools and applications, data analytics, interoperability, and medication safety. In his free time, he enjoys rock climbing, exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends, and critiquing the social commentaries embedded in modern Korean dramatic television production narratives. Dr. Weng would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their encouragement, guidance, and support throughout his life.

Dr. Chaohao Chen

Dr. Chen is originally from New Haven, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. His professional interest includes oncology, clinical research, regulatory affairs and medication safety. During my free time, Dr. Chen enjoys video games, watching dramas, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Vy Bui

Dr. Vy Bui is originally from High Point, North Carolina. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Bui is in her second year of the two-year Investigational Drugs and Research Pharmacy Residency Program. Her professional interests include clinical research in vulnerable populations, regulatory affairs, and optimization of IDS pharmacy services. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Bui would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continuous love, support, and guidance.

Dr. Emma Baker

Dr. Emma Baker is originally from Granger, Indiana. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Baker's professional interests include internal medicine, critical care, pediatrics, organizational leadership, and academia. Upon completion of her two-year pharmacotherapy residency, Dr. Baker would like to practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist and as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at a large academic medical center associated with a college of pharmacy. In her spare time, Dr. Baker enjoys cheering on the Boilermakers in football and basketball, exploring the great outdoors through hiking, traveling, experiencing Baltimore's wide variety of restaurants, and spending quality time with friends, loved ones, and cat, Maru. Dr. Baker would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their endless support, guidance, and encouragement.

Dr. Evan Cole

Dr. Evan Cole is originally from Clarkston, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor of Health Sciences and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Cole's professional interests include Critical Care, Transplant, and Infectious Disease. Upon completing his two-year pharmacotherapy residency, Dr. Cole would like to pursue a career as clinical pharmacist at an academic medical center where he will be able to precept students and help develop drug policy. In his free time, he enjoys running, cooking, listening to music and attending concerts. Dr. Cole would like to thank his family, friends, and many mentors who helped him to this point and for their continual support and encouragement.

Dr. Evan Cole

PGY-2 Ambulatory Care

  • Dr. Brian TranDr. Brian Tran is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and is a double dawg, graduating from the University of Georgia with his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2019 and Doctor of Pharmacy in 2021. He then went on to complete his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Emory Decatur Hospital in Decatur, Georgia. Dr. Tran’s clinical interests include preventative cardiology, primary care in HIV, internal medicine, and specialty pharmacy. His research interest is cardiovascular disease in patients living with HIV. Upon completion of his PGY-2, he plans to become board certified in ambulatory care and practice at an academic medical center with opportunities to precept and mentor pharmacy learners. In his free time, he enjoys working out, finding new coffee shops, and playing video and trading card games. Dr. Tran would like to sincerely thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and encouragement.

  • Dr. Katharine RussoDr. Katharine Russo is originally from Freehold, NJ. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Queens, NY. She then went on to complete her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Russo’s professional interests include diabetes management, internal medicine, patient education, and transitions of care. Upon completion of her PGY-2, Dr. Russo plans to practice as a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist at a large academic medical center with opportunities for a faculty position and precepting pharmacy students and residents. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exercising, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Russo would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and encouragement.

PGY-2 Critical Care

Dr. Haley Fribance

Dr. Haley Fribance is originally from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and went on to complete her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Fribance’s professional interests include critical care and emergency medicine. Upon completion of her PGY2 Pharmacy Residency, she plans to pursue a position as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center with opportunities to precept residents and students. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and being outdoors. Dr. Fribance would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and guidance.

Dr. Haley Fribance

PGY-2 Emergency Medicine

Dr. Savanna Scott

Dr. Savanna Scott is originally from Gloucester Point, Virginia. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University and went on to earn her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University. Dr. Scott’s professional interests include trauma, medical emergencies, and medication safety. Dr. Scott plans to practice as a board-certified clinical specialist (BCEMP) upon completion of her PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency. She hopes to practice in an academic medical center, where she will have the opportunity to give back to her profession by precepting pharmacy students and residents. In her free time, Dr. Scott enjoys Orange Theory Fitness, trying new restaurants, traveling, watching New Girl re-runs, and spending time with her family and friends (especially her kitties!). Her favorite foods include raw oysters, sushi, s’mores, and Chipotle. Dr. Scott would like to sincerely thank her loving partner, parents, friends, co-residents, and mentors for their unending love and encouragement throughout the years.

PGY-2 Infectious Diseases

Dr. Matty Zimmerman

Dr. Matty Zimmerman is originally from Reading, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from Temple University and went on to earn her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Zimmerman’s professional interests include antimicrobial stewardship, HIV, infections in the immunocompromised host, public health and academia. Upon completion of her PGY-2 infectious diseases residency, she hopes to pursue a career as a board-certified infectious diseases clinical specialist at an academic medical center with ample opportunities for teaching and research. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Baltimore one restaurant at a time and taking too many photos of her cat, Purrkinje. Dr. Zimmerman would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and guidance.

  • Dr. Callan BanksDr. Callan Banks is originally from Ripley, West Virginia. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Banks’s professional interests include solid tumors, hematological malignancies, and supportive care. Upon completion of her PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Banks plans to practice as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center, where she will have the opportunity to precept pharmacy students and residents. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, riding horses, skiing, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Banks would like to thank her fiancé, family, friends, and mentors for their continuous support and encouragement.

  • Dr. Daniel SkolodaDr. Daniel Skoloda is originally from Youngstown, Ohio. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Skoloda’s professional interests include hematologic malignancies and oncology critical care. His long-term career goals including practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist in an academic medical center in the inpatient setting, where he will have the opportunity to teach and precept students and residents. In his free time, Dr. Skoloda enjoys cooking, playing golf, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, and skiing. Dr. Skoloda would like to express his sincere gratitude to his wife, family, friends, and mentors for their support, guidance, and encouragement.

  • Dr. Elayna SilfaniDr. Elayna Silfani is originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Silfani’s professional interests include hematologic malignancies and oncology critical care. After completing residency, Dr. Silfani plans to purse board certification and to practice as an oncology clinical pharmacy specialist at an academic medical center where she will have further opportunities to precept students and residents. Outside of pharmacy, Dr. Silfani enjoys trying new restaurants and coffee shops, spending time with her family and friends (and cat, Winnie), reading and cooking. Dr. Silfani would like to sincerely thank her wonderful parents, siblings, boyfriend, friends, coresidents, preceptors and mentors for their endless guidance, support, and encouragement throughout her pharmacy journey.

PGY-2 Pain Management and Palliative Care

Dr. Elijah Myers

Dr. Elijah Myers is originally from Campbellsville, Kentucky. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Kentucky. He completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Myers’s professional interests include substance use disorder, palliative care, pain management, and opioid stewardship. Upon completion of his PGY-2 training, Dr. Myers plans to practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist at an academic medical center to pursue research opportunities, precept students, and serve in institutional and professional organization leadership positions. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Myers enjoys running and cycling, keeping up with the English Premier League and college basketball, and earning free entrees from Chipotle. Dr. Myers would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued love, support, and encouragement.

Dr. Brooke Szachnowicz

Dr. Brooke Szachnowicz is originally from Edgewater, Maryland. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Szachnowicz's professional interests include pediatric critical care, emergency medicine, and research. Upon completion of her PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency, her career goals include practicing as a board-certified clinical specialist at an academic medical center with opportunities to teach and precept pharmacy residents and students. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys going to the beach, traveling, exercising, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Brooke Szachnowicz

PGY-2 Transplant

Dr. Lanea Glauner

Dr. Lanea Glauner is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She earned for Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital. In addition to solid organ transplant, Dr. Glauner’s professional interests include opportunistic infections, clinical research, and health equity. Upon completion of her PGY-2 solid organ transplant residency, Dr. Glauner would like to practice as a board-certified solid organ transplant clinical specialist at an academic medical center where she will have the opportunity to pursue research opportunities as well as precept students and residents. When not practicing pharmacy, you can find her biking, exploring the Baltimore restaurant scene, and attending concerts.
