Requirements for Successful Completion of the Sibley Memorial PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

An ASHP accredited residency certificate will be awarded upon the successful completion of all residency requirements. Residents must obtain “achieved for residency” for at least 85% of all program objectives:

  • Residents must be licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia
  • Complete at least 35 weeks in the 52-week residency program as a licensed pharmacist to meet two-thirds requirement
  • Complete CPR and ACLS certification, as well as Code Blue Training
  • Complete Journal Club (minimum 2)
  • Complete Case Presentation (minimum 2)
  • Complete Educational In-service (minimum 2)
  • Present ACPE-accredited Pharmacotherapy Rounds activity (1)
  • Present Research Project at Eastern States Residency Conference or another professional forum
  • Create and present a poster at either ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting or another professional forum
  • Complete, present and write up a Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE)
  • Attend Medication Safety Committee meetings
  • Complete, write and publish a Pharmacy and Therapeutics newsletter
  • Submit article to Washington Metropolitan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (WMSHP)
  • Complete Required Selected Electives
  • Attend ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
  • Attend Eastern States Residency Conference
  • Write a manuscript that meets the guidelines for submission to a journal
  • Complete resident notebook/PharmAcademic portfolio
  • Complete Resident Exit Interview
  • Clean up workstation/return office keys/laptop/badge

Confirmation of successful completion of the program requirements is the responsibility of the Residency Program Director.

A Certificate of Residency Training can be awarded when all the requirements have been completed.

Residents who have not successfully completed all the requirements are not eligible to attend the end-of-year celebration when Certificates of Residency Training are awarded.
