Nurse Scholar Fellowship

The Johns Hopkins Nurse Scholar Fellowship is a competitive program aimed at building nursing expertise in inquiry work. The program provides nurses with the foundation needed to participate in evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement (QI), and research work.  In addition to classroom content and hands-on training, fellows will have the opportunity to interact with nurse leaders and inquiry experts. The Nurse Scholar Fellowship is an opportunity to be part of a diverse group of nurses dedicated to furthering the science of nursing.

Curriculum

Fellows will receive 8 hours per month of paid, protected time to attend lectures and participate in a scholarly project. In the classroom, fellows will learn about the three forms of nursing inquiry - EBP, QI, and research - from inquiry experts. Classroom dates are scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday of the month and will begin in June. Outside the classroom, fellows will work together on the creation, conduction, implementation, and dissemination of a scholarly project. While classroom dates are scheduled for 12 months, the scholarly project may last up to 18 months.

Mentor

We want you to succeed as a fellow. That’s why every fellow is assigned a mentor. The role of the mentor is to help guide you through the inquiry process, serve as a resource for your questions and concerns, and help you achieve your professional goals. Mentor assignments are coordinated by the Johns Hopkins Center for Nursing Inquiry.

Being part of the [Nurse Scholar Fellowship] gave me both the knowledge and the practical experience to become a resource in my department for all things research. In 18 short months, we completed intensive training, presented at a regional conference, and published in a nursing journal! It was also a wonderful opportunity to work with nurses throughout the hospital that I otherwise would have never met.
