The Armstrong Institute’s three-day observership gives health care leaders a window into Johns Hopkins Medicine’s programs for delivering consistently safe, high quality and high-value care. Through presentations, facility tours and small-group meetings with Johns Hopkins Medicine leaders, participants gain insights for embedding health care improvement efforts into their organizations. They head home with a deeper understanding of the structures, strategies and resources needed to take patient safety and quality of care to the next level.

Observership Details

Schedule at a Glance

Day One: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Presentations and discussions about our five pillars of improvement work — patient safety, patient experience, value, externally reported measures and health care equity — and our research programs.

Day Two: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (Networking dinner at 6 p.m.)

Learn about our programs and strategies in several key areas, including leadership and governance, high-reliability organizing, quality improvement, event reporting, clinical analytics, diagnostic errors, infection prevention and department-level quality improvement efforts.

Day Three: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

In the morning, tour the hospital and its Capacity Command Center, and learn more about CUSP and Lean approaches to improvement. Later, take part in round table “deep dive” discussions with Johns Hopkins experts in patient safety and quality, patient experience, leadership and governance, high value care. Rotate through the tables or stay at those that interest you most.

  • $3,500/participant
  • Group discount: Save 20 percent when 3 or more people from your organization sign up together
    • Registration includes breakfast and lunch every day, as well as a networking dinner on Day 2.
  • Each cohort is limited to 30 participants.

Hotels and Travel

For easy access to observership activities, we recommend that participants stay at the Residence Inn Baltimore at The Johns Hopkins Medical Campus, where we have secured a group rate of $129/night. Book your room by November 18, 2018 to obtain this rate.
