Assistant Chiefs of Service (ACS)

Kevin Eaton, MD, Barker Firm

Kevin is a native Texan who moved to Baltimore five years ago to join the Osler Medical Residency. He was inspired by the unique training environment in which to develop his clinical skills with longitudinal feedback from his colleagues and ACS. Kevin found an unparalleled accessibility to faculty mentors who motivated him to engage administrative leadership in hospital-wide projects to advance patient safety. He was even given the opportunity to design his own quality improvement initiative with the support of his department’s leadership. With this strong clinical and leadership foundation, he transitioned into a role as a Hospitalist at NYU Langone Health before returning in his current role as ACS. Kevin will ultimately continue his work in Hospital Medicine and administrative leadership with an emphasis on hospital operations and models for healthcare delivery. In his free time, he enjoys running along the water and sailing in the harbor.

Chad Hochberg, MD, Longcope Firm

Chad came to Johns Hopkins for the Osler Medical Residency and will complete his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care after his ACS year. One of the many things that drew Chad to Hopkins is the incredible breadth and diversity of the patients that the residency cares for. On any given day, highly specialized tertiary and quaternary care for patients from all over the world is offered alongside providing the highest quality of care for patients from the surrounding community. As an ACS, he values the incredible teamwork it takes to accomplish the Hopkins care mission and couldn’t be more proud of being a part of that effort. Outside the hospital, he enjoys exploring the ever expanding Baltimore food scene and spending time with his wife and two rescue dogs.

Shannon Walker, MD, Thayer Firm

Shannon is now in her eighth year in the mesmerizing world of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and is convinced that each year gets better and better. Originally from Northern VA, she came to Hopkins for medical school and stayed for residency after observing the clinical competency and teaching of the senior residents on ACS rounds. She couldn’t believe the depths of their knowledge & compassion, and the unique opportunity to lead rounds with two hours of uninterrupted bedside teaching daily. Nothing excited her more than the opportunity to continue teaching, leading and mentoring in the role of ACS. Within medicine, Shannon has a passion for global health and conducted research in Uganda and volunteered in Mauritania while in residency. After ACS year, she hopes to continue practicing medicine with Médecins sans Frontières. When not hanging with her team in the hospital, she enjoys exploring the quaint neighborhood of Fells Point, visiting farmers markets, running along the waterfront and playing beach volleyball in the harbor.

Ali Wand, MD, Janeway Firm

Ali came to Baltimore by way of Philly five years ago. She was initially drawn to Hopkins by the exceptional clinical training and unparalleled opportunities for residents to learn how to teach and lead a team. She soon discovered that the best aspects of the program are the extraordinary faculty and the talented, passionate housestaff who make up the Osler family-–she has never stopped learning from her amazing colleagues. Ali has been honored and excited to lead and teach the next class of Osler interns as an ACS. After her ACS year, Ali plans to continue her clinical training in cardiology fellowship. She has a passion for medical education and hopes to continue to work with trainees in the coming years. Outside the hospital, Ali loves cooking with her family, reading and playing whatever game is her son’s current favorite.
