Stephanie Alden, MD, Barker Firm

Stephanie grew up in Pepper Pike, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. She attended Dartmouth College, where she majored in Biological Chemistry, followed by one year at the National Cancer Institute, where she conducted drug discovery research in Oncology. She then moved to Boston to attend Harvard Medical School for her medical degree. She spent the last year completing her first year of Medical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she has chosen to focus on clinical trials in GI Oncology. She is excited to return to Baltimore this year to teach, learn from, and work with the firm of choice (Barker) while taking care of the patient population in East Baltimore. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys trying new restaurants, long walks along the water, and spending time with family / friends.

Christina Tamargo, MD, Janeway Firm

Christina is originally from Tampa, Florida. She did her undergraduate training at Vanderbilt University (go ‘Dores!) and went to medical school at the University of Miami. She did one year of Nephrology Fellowship before starting her ACS year. Outside of work, she likes to run, play pickleball, and go to O’s games, and her favorite pastime is boating. She is excited to bond with the amazing Janeway family this year and to finally join the firm of giants!

Jona Mata, MD, Longcope Firm

Jona was born in Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines and grew up in Austin, Texas. She is a proud Texas Longhorn, completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She took a year off to work in multiple non-profit organizations, improving healthcare in Central Texas and dedicated herself to social justice missions. She went to medical school at Texas A&M (though she'll always be a Longhorn at heart). After graduating from the Osler residency, she stayed at Johns Hopkins for Oncology Fellowship. Her clinical and research interests include GI Oncology, improving quality of life in patients with cancer, and Med Ed. She is most excited about passing along the knowledge and wisdom of all of her teachers to her residents. And growing and learning alongside them, too. Outside of the hospital, you'll probably find her taking various workout classes (boxing is a favorite), traveling to different countries, frequenting good restaurants, checking off her concert bucket list and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens.

Armani Minasian Hawes, MD, Thayer Firm

Armani grew up in Southeast Michigan in a musical Armenian-American family. She completed her undergraduate degree in public policy and medical school at the University of Michigan. She moved to Baltimore in 2021 for the Osler Medical Residency where she found significant joy in caring for people in Baltimore. After graduating from the Osler Medical Residency, she completed her first year of Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Johns Hopkins prior to her ACS year. Her clinical and research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, multidrug resistant infections, and critical care medicine. She is thrilled to return to the Osler Medical Residency to work and learn with the Osler Housestaff. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys reading books, going on hikes, traveling, and eating Taharka Brothers ice cream.

Benjamin Johnson, MD, Stevens ACS for Ambulatory Services

Ben was born in Boston and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and initially had his heart set on becoming a diplomat but then decided to become a physician after seeing the transformative impact of global health programs like the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Prior to medical school he spent 5 years working on global HIV treatment programs, first with the U.S. State Department and later with CDC. He obtained his MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and then joined the Osler Medical Residency. Before starting as the Stevens ACS, Ben completed his first year of Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Johns Hopkins. His clinical and research interests include HIV, health policy, and global health security. He is thrilled to return to the Osler Medical Residency to work alongside and mentor the exceptional Osler Housestaff. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring Patterson Park, listening to classic blues, and woodworking.
