Rohin was born in Kansas and grew up in Georgia. After high school, he attended Emory University to study chemistry and music performance for undergrad, during which he led the campus community service and social justice coalition and developed an interest in medicine and public health. He pursued medical education at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and attended the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to learn theories and applications of health behavior change using community-based participatory research methods. Having seen a vibrant and collaborative community in Baltimore, Rohin is excited to train in the Osler Medical Residency program and its Urban Health primary care track. He enjoys trying out new recipes, taking long walks by the harbor, climbing all the staircases, and hanging out with his awesome colleagues.

Elie was born in Zahlé, Lebanon (The City of Wine and Poetry). He moved to Beirut for his undergraduate studies to study Biology and then obtained his medical degree at the American University of Beirut. Before joining the Osler program, Elie moved to Boston where he worked on autophagy, mTOR signaling, lysosomal biogenesis and drug discovery for two years. Outside of medicine, you can find him either in the gym, brewing/drinking coffee or playing Catan. Elie’s favorite aspects of the Osler residency include the mentorship opportunities and the autonomy granted to the residents. In Baltimore, most probably you will find him on a scooter/bike exploring different neighborhoods around the city and enjoying the amazing food scene in the Charm City.
Stephanie Alden, MD

Stephanie grew up in a suburb of Cleveland before moving to Dartmouth for college, where she studied biological chemistry. After graduating, she conducted small molecule drug discovery research at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, MD before studying at Harvard Medical School. Stephanie's potential career interests include oncology as well as clinical/translational research. Her hobbies include pilates/barre, biking, long walks, the New York Times crossword, and coffee. Stephanie has enjoyed the supportive nature of the Osler residency program, with its many opportunities for young physicians to take leadership roles. She looks forward to more walks along the Baltimore harbor and spending time with her fellow residents in the coming years.

Shannon grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland alongside her three cherished siblings. She is a proud graduate of the illustrious Hampton University where she majored in biology. Her pursuit of medicine lead her to complete the George Squared post-baccalaureate program and ultimately earn a Masters in Physiology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She then continued her educational studies at Howard University College of Medicine where she developed her passion for Internal Medicine and achieved her medical degree. Shannon says her favorite attribute about the Osler Medical Residency is the sense of community and dedication to learning. Despite busy times as an intern, Shannon never misses an opportunity to explore Baltimore with her best friend Chance, her cute goldendoodle. She also enjoys catching the newest scary movie in theatres with her partner and dancing the night away with friends!
Aanika Balaji, MD, MPH

Aanika moved a lot in her childhood - first spending time in Chicago then rural Missouri before settling in Mesa, Arizona (where she considers home). She went to the University of Arizona where she studied microbiology and intercultural studies before coming to Johns Hopkins for medical school. Aanika sees her future career caring for oncology patients and understandinglearning more about future cancer therapeutics, especially like immune-checkpoint inhibitors. Some of her hobbies include caring for a lot of indoor plants and listening to true crime podcasts. She appreciates her co-residents and the deliberate teaching moments sprinkled in throughout the day in the Osler Medical Residency. When she's not in the hospital, you can find Aanika hiking around Western Maryland, running along the harbor, or at home hanging with her partner (Sam) and cat (Blue).

Edward was born and raised in St. Petersburg, FL along with his older brother, Robert. He grew up playing tennis in the Florida sun before playing on the Johns Hopkins varsity team for 4 years. At JHU, he was pre-med and majored in Spanish. After college, Edward spent a year as a research assistant in clinical genetics at UNC, Chapel Hill volunteered as a Spanish-English interpreter in their mental health free clinic. He returned to Florida for medical school at Florida State before jumping back to Baltimore for an MPH at Hopkins after 3rd year. Edward cannot get enough of Baltimore, mostly due to the city's mix of southern charm (everyone says hello) and mid-Atlantic energy. He enjoys pizza at Pauli Gees (Hampden) with his wife, Courtnee, and walks in Patterson Park with his dog, Annie.

Jackie grew up in Memphis, TN. Her love of math and sciences led her to study at MIT, where she earned BS degrees in Chemical-Biological Engineering and Economics and an MS in Chemical Engineering Practice. She completed her MD and PhD at Johns Hopkins, with her thesis work focused on ways to harness the immune system to target mutations present on the surface of cancer cells. She chose the Osler Medical Residency because of the rigorous but supportive clinical training environment as well as the incredible sense of community among the residents and faculty. Outside of medicine, she enjoys going to yoga and spin classes, and spending time with her husband and two cats.

Tola was born in Aba, Nigeria and immigrated to Toronto, Canada at the age of 7 where she spent most of her childhood. She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at York University and went on to attend Meharry Medical College for medical school. During her medical school career, she was dedicated to serving the underserved and addressing social determinants of health that often limit healthcare accessibility to vulnerable populations. In her free time, Ayotola likes to brunch at new restaurants, binge-watch Netflix series and work out. Her favourite parts about the Osler program are her co-residents who are so supportive and looking out for each another and the excellent and generous teaching from faculty. Since moving to Baltimore, she has enjoyed jogging down to the waterfront and eating her way through the city, one restaurant at a time.

He developed a keen interest in Internal Medicine in medical school and during his intern year in St. James's Hospital, Dublin. Sean feels very privileged to be learning from the dedicated mentors of the Osler Medical Residency, working alongside amazing residents who share his enjoyment of and passion for learning medicine. Priyal Gandhi, MD

Priyal was born in Mumbai, India, and lived in Kansas for 4 years before moving to Northern Virginia. She studied neuroscience and women, gender, and sexuality at the University of Virginia where her work with refugee learners sparked an interest in social and structural determinants of health. During medical school, Priyal worked on medical education, research, and advocacy initiatives to improve the care of vulnerable populations and became interested in addiction medicine, care for people affected by the carceral system, and geriatrics. She couples matched to the Osler Medical Residency with her husband and co-resident Yash, and loves the unmatched enthusiasm for learning and compassion for patients that her colleagues bring to work every single day. Priyal hopes you'll join her in vegan food excursions, dancing, and community engagement in the resilient, eclectic, and quirky city of Baltimore.

Ross Gilbert was born and raised in Howards Grove, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in kinesiology and biology. He is joining our Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Urban Health program from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he participated in the Training in Urban Medicine and Public Health (TRIUMPH) program. During medical school he helped to direct a free community clinic in Milwaukee and conducted maternal and child health research among low SES Wisconsin families. Ross strives to be a communty-engaged, equity-oriented physician leader while providing compassionate primary care to families. He is looking forward to exploring Baltimore's many parks and eating ice cream with his wife, daughter, and dog.

Julia grew up in southern NJ before moving to the midwest to attend the greatest university in the world, The University of Michigan. While there, she studied Spanish and discovered her passion for cold winters and college football. She then moved to Baltimore for medical school at Hopkins, where she fell in love with medical education, Old Bay seasoning, and the liver. She hopes to pursue a career that allows her to teach students and residents why the liver is the best organ for many years to come. When she is not in the hospital, Julia can be found in a dog park, baking bread, doing a crossword puzzle, or poorly performing all of Lin Manuel Miranda's musicals by herself. Julia knew she wanted to stay at Hopkins for the Osler Residency because of the value it places on history, education, and autonomy. She has dreamed of becoming a doctor for as long as she can remember, and cannot believe she gets to be a part of the Hopkins family. Julia is looking forward to getting to know her co-residents, caring for patients, and figuring out the Orleans garage.

Leora grew up right outside of Philadelphia with three brothers (who think she's very cool) and two much younger sisters (who are now in middle school and recently told her she actually is not cool). She attended Weill Cornell for medical school and despite growing to love New York City, she's very interested in rural health. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and recently learned to surf. Her favorite thing about residency so far has been getting Subway cookies with her co-residents at 3am. What she loves most about Baltimore are the "fairy-lights" strung up on her block, and all the top tier ice cream!

Ben grew up outside of Boston before moving to Washington D.C. for college. Prior to medical school he spent five years at the State Department and CDC, where he worked on global HIV treatment & prevention programs through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). As a med student he continued to explore his overlapping interests in health, public policy, and international affairs by working on refugee health programs in Jordan and later on global COVID-19 policy initiatives. He enjoys detective novels, woodworking, coffee in all its glorious forms, and spending time by the water. Ben was drawn to the Osler program because of the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best clinicians while also serving Baltimoreans from diverse backgrounds. In the coming years he’s excited to learn more about the city’s vibrant communities and to enjoy Baltimore’s great food scene.

Neel grew up in a small town in West Virginia and then Columbus, OH. He worked as a management consulting at the Boston Consulting Group in New York for two years prior to medical school. He aspires to translate lessons from caring for individual patients into systemic advocacy in population and public health. Outside of medicine, he enjoys running, cooking, and dancing (Bhangra, salsa, hip hop, and anything in between). He really appreciates the inspiration and role modeling he gets from mentors, senior residents, peers, and patients as part of the Osler program and the program's emphasis on teaching. Ian was born in San Antonio, Texas, but his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee when he went off for college. Throughout his childhood and his undergraduate experience, he was an avid swimmer, swimming backstroke under Eddie Reese for the Texas Longhorns who won NCAA championships in 2015 and 2016. Before going to medical school where he completed research in nephrology and pursued his MPH with a focus in epidemiology, he attended the 2016 Olympic trials and worked for Sarah Cannon Cancer Research Institute in Nashville. Ian truly enjoys the incredible people he has met thus far in the Osler Medical Residency, both in his colleagues and in patients he has met. Ian is looking forward to living on the East Coast for the first time and exploring the area surrounding Baltimore, as well as sampling local cuisine and beers. He remains undecided for his future career focus, but has a strong interest in oncology and pulmonology, in addition to health care policy.

Yash was born in Charlottesville and grew up in Northern Virginia (with a 2 year detour in Nottingham, England as a child). He studied Neuroscience and Bioethics at the University of Virginia before going to New York for medical school at Mount Sinai, where he was involved with EHHOP, the student-run free clinic. Yash then couples matched to the Osler Residency with his wife Priyal. He spends his free time playing board games, refining his Spikeball technique, tinkering with his fantasy football lineups, and reading Agatha Christie novels. Yash feels lucky to work each day with an inspiring cohort of brilliant and supportive co-residents. He's also enjoyed exploring the city's many coffee shops, finding new running routes, and immersing himself in the Baltimore community.

Vianca Masucci hails from Newark, New Jersey but lived in Pennsylvania for over a decade before making her way to Charm City. First, in the suburbs of Philadelphia where she studied theater as an undergrad at Swarthmore College. Then, in Pittsburgh where she spent five years prior to her medical school matriculation pursuing a career in community advocacy with a focus on the issue of health disparity. And finally, in Hershey, PA where she completed medical school. Because of her personal and professional background, she has a strong interest in health policy, health infrastructure reform, advocacy, and community health. Since joining the Osler program, Vianca has been continually impressed with the esprit de corps amongst her co-interns, the rigorous clinical training, and the variety of opportunities to work with marginalized populations. She has loved settling into Baltimore and, when she's not at the hospital, can be found either at Patterson Park with her dog or dining dockside, eating something that is heavily seasoned with Old Bay.

Jona was born in Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines and grew up in Austin, Texas. She went to UT Austin (Hook 'Em!) and studied Biology and Economics. She took a year off to travel and was an intern at two non-profit organizations. Afterwards, she went to Texas A&M College of Medicine where she was class president and was part of the medical scholar research pathway program. Outside of medicine, Jona loves to kickbox, eat all the calories she burned while kickboxing, traveling, going to concerts and collecting vinyl records. She enjoys the brilliance and dedication of her teachers at Hopkins, and getting to work with people with the biggest hearts. She is looking forward to finding the best restaurants in Baltimore, getting to hang out with her co-interns and is currently in search for the best chips and queso in Baltimore.
Daniel Matasic, MD, PhD, MBA

Dan was born in Philadelphia and spent the majority of his childhood in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He attended Pennsylvania State University as part of the 5-year Science BS/MBA program and focused on Molecular Biology, Finance, and Healthcare Strategy. Staying within the Big Ten Conference, he moved to the University of Iowa to train within their Medical Scientist Training Program, earning his MD and PhD in 2021. At Iowa, Dan continued to cultivate his grit and passion for academic medicine, clinical cardiology, and cardiovascular research. His PhD thesis examined the influences of metabolism on cardiac ion channel function and activity. Outside of the hospital and laboratory, Dan appreciates many outdoor activities, particularly rock climbing, boating, and biking and enjoys any and all live music. He chose the Osler Medical Residency because of their philosophy and commitment to medical education and is continually impressed by the grace and character of his fellow residents.
Marni McClure, MD, PhD

Marni was born and raised in Virginia Beach before heading to North Carolina for 12 years. She attended Duke University, studying genomics while playing lots of club tennis. She then went down the road to UNC Chapel Hill to pursue an MD-PhD in their MSTP, studying the genetic evolution of metastatic breast cancer. After graduating from medical school, Marni pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, Japan for two years, integrating RNA and DNA sequencing data in datasets spanning multiple different types of cancer. Outside of the hospital, Marni loves spending time outdoors with her husband, 9 month-old son, and husky going for walks, hikes, and picnics. With respect to the Osler residency program, the support, collegiality, and incredible focus on teaching across all levels of the residents and faculty has been the absolute best part of residency thus far. She is excited to explore Baltimore's food scene, surrounding hiking trails, and sailing down in Annapolis!
Monica Meeks, MD

Monica grew up in Omaha, NE and attended Washington University in St. Louis for college, majoring in French and International Studies. After spending her junior year abroad in Toulouse studying the immigrant experience in the French health care system, she decided to pursue a career in medicine. She spent the next few years completing prerequisite coursework, working as a sommelier, and later, working as a patient care coordinator at a nonprofit surgery center in Honduras. After four wonderful years at Johns Hopkins for medical school, she chose to stay at the Osler Medical Residency for the incredible collegiality, clinical rigor, and passion for medicine that imbue the culture of the program. Also, because she couldn't imagine getting through residency without Ekiben. She loves Baltimore for its quirky, friendly neighborhoods and believes the park benches that say it is The Greatest City in America.
Hannah Miller, MD PhD

Hannah grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore and attended University of Maryland College Park for her undergraduate degree in Neurobiology and Physiology. During her college years, she worked with Dr. John McDyer at Hopkins investigating chronic rejection in lung transplantation. She then joined the MSTP program at Washington University in St. Louis, where she completed a PhD in Immunology with Dr. Marco Colonna, with her thesis focused on dendritic cell biology. Hannah loves to spend time outside with her 2 dogs and explore restaurants around Baltimore. She is thrilled to be back in her hometown to continue her training, close to family and many friends. For Hannah, besides ideal location, Hopkins has the perfect balance of excellent, rigorous clinic training and abundant research opportunities.

Jenna Milstein likes to say she grew up with two families -- her blood family and her circus family. Raised in northern Virginia, Jenna spent considerable time hanging around Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in various locations, as her mother was an attorney for the show's parent production company. While she never did get good at juggling or elephant pedicures, Jenna went on to play club soccer at the College of William & Mary, where she majored in Biology and minored in Art & Art History. She harbors a da Vinci-inspired passion for combining art and science; in fact, during her time at UVA School of Medicine, Jenna had a medical illustration published and developed a keen interest in the design and use of infographics in medical education. As a new Osler resident, she is particularly excited to pursue her love of cardiac electrophysiology (fun fact: the first cardiac defibrillator was developed at Hopkins), and she simply cannot get enough ECGs! Jenna already loves learning and working with her co-interns, JARs, & SARs (particularly in Barker, firm of choice), and she's looking forward to discovering her favorite ice cream place in Charm City!

Maggie was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, a few miles outside of Manhattan. She attended College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, where she received her BA in Biology. After graduation, she took a year off to travel and spend time with family and friends before beginning medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. She is now thrilled to be an Internal Medicine Resident in the Osler program! Her interests include critical care, cardiology, and medical education. She is a member of the Medical Education Pathway and hopes to purse a fellowship in Cardiology after residency. Outside of the hospital, she loves spending time with her significant other Rob (EM resident at University of Maryland) and their cat Pete. Gitanjali Narayanan, MD, PhD

She then moved to Portland, Oregon for her MD/PhD at OHSU, where she studied how the lung immune system recognizes microbial infection. She is interested in exploring this to further understand the interplay between the immune response to infection and the development of autoimmunity. Gitanjali spends her free time reading, cooking, and sewing her own clothes. She loves the strong sense of camaraderie and community found in the Osler residency, and looks forward to exploring Baltimore with her co-interns.

Osose Oboh is one of our Janeway JARs, a visual storyteller, content creator, and advocate for minorities pursuing careers in medicine. She went to UCLA obtaining her B.S. in Biology before going to the University of Southern California for her MPH with a focus on Global Health Leadership. She spent a lot of her time during medical school advocating for diversity and inclusion within the medical field, particularly in her role as the National President of the Student National Medical Association and as the Student Trustee to the Board of Trustees of the National Medical Association. She will be serving on the Housestaff Council and as President of the Housestaff Diversity Council. Osose loves the art of storytelling, and is a professional photographer by trade. She is excited to not only become clinically excellent during residency in Internal Medicine, but also to learn how to share powerful stories of her patients and their communities that shifts perspectives. She was excited to match at Osler, her number 1 choice, because of the unique teaching opportunities the program would bring with the infamous Osler service and because of the opportunity to live and train in Baltimore. She will be specializing in Gastroenterology while continuing to explore her interests in med ed and global health.
Katherine Panettiere-Kennedy, MD, MPH

Katherine grew up in New York City and majored in Biology at Cornell University. After graduation she worked in clinical research for three years prior to enrolling in a combined MD/MPH program at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She loved training there, but is happy to be back closer to her family. She hasn't decided if she would like to specialize, but is interested in Critical Care as well as Hospitalist Medicine, and hopes to find a way to balance these with public health work. Katherine and her husband are obsessed with their feline children, Izzy and Freddie, who they hope will get along with the human child they’re expecting in September. Katherine spends her free time doing crafts, tending to way too many plants, and walking around her neighborhood. She is loving Baltimore so far!

Mitch was born and raised in the great state of Texas and was the first person in his family to pursue medicine. He stayed in Texas for his undergrad and medical school, but he was looking to branch away from Texas for residency. He loves music (Baltimore has great concerts!), finding new restaurants in the area, and going on trips during his weekends off on his ambulatory blocks. Mitch was drawn to the Osler program for two main reasons: the clinic training here is unmatched and the Baltimore patient population is diverse and rich in culture! During his residency, Mitch hopes to find a good Mexican restaurant in Baltimore, go deep sea fishing/whale watching, and grow closer to his Janeway co-residents (THE BEST FIRM).
Nicole Paul, MD

Nicole grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and traveled to the opposite side of the state to attend undergrad at Penn, where she majored in the Biological Basis of Behavior and minored in Bioethics. She then spent a year as an AmeriCorps member serving at a primary healthcare center. She returned home to Pittsburgh for medical school (once a yinzer, always a yinzer) and met many phenomenal mentors who cultivated her love for internal medicine. In her free time, Nicole likes to stay active, and she will also never say no to live music. In Baltimore, she enjoys running along the Inner Harbor Trail, trying new restaurants, and traveling to D.C. on her days off to spend time with family. Nicole feels at home in the Osler Medical Residency and is looking forward to JAR year!
David Polhemus, MD, PhD

David was born and raised in San Francisco, CA into a loving home with his older sister, mom, and dad. He then went on to graduate from Emory with bachelor's degrees in Economics and Chemistry and he quickly fell in love with translational cardiovascular research. David then completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology in the Lab of Dr. David Lefer at LSU in New Orleans. Following graduate school, he entered medical school (also at LSU) with the career goal of becoming an academic physician scientist. David and his amazing wife (Jordan) love adventurous travel, staying active, and being involved in their church. What David loves most about the Osler Residency Program is the ownership of patient care afforded to residents and how the expectation of delivery of superior clinical care can exist within such supportive training environment. David looks forward to spending more time on the waterfront, exploring the international cuisine of Baltimore, and being with his amazing co-residents as much as possible. David is thrilled that he now lives less than 1 mile from where his distant relative, Francis Scott Key, wrote the "Star-Spangled Banner" at Fort McHenry.
Aarti Purohit, MD

Aarti was born in India but grew up all over the US, living in 5 different states before settling down in Virginia, which she has called home for just over a decade. She attended the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!) where she majored in Neuroscience, and then moved to Baltimore to complete her medical degree at Johns Hopkins. As a medical student, she watched the incredible progress that residents made between their intern and senior years, and how confident, capable, and all-around fantastic physicians and teachers they became. Because of this, she chose to continue training at Hopkins and has loved meeting and working with all her amazing co-residents! In her free time, she loves watching crime TV shows/documentaries, trying new dessert shops and vegetarian-friendly restaurants with friends, and going to the gym when she has time, and more importantly, the motivation!

Aardra grew up in Lewisville, North Carolina and completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering and South Asia Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Following her graduation, she was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship to conduct environmental and public health research in Chennai, India. Aardra then returned to North Carolinawhere she completed her medical training at Duke University during which time she developed a strong interest in women's health and the management of medically complex pregnancies in patients with autoimmune diseases, interstitial lung disease, and cardiorespiratory complications. She is deeply excited to continue her growth and learn alongside so many compassionate individuals in the Osler Medical Residency. In her free time, Aardra loves to breathe in nature, experiment with vegan / vegetarian cooking, and spend time with her family. She is looking forward to exploring the food-scene in Baltimore and taking long walks along the harbor!

In medical school, he participated in population health research, started community health projects, and social determinant electives. As an Osler resident, he is enjoying learning from prominent clinicians and policymakers. In Baltimore, he enjoys hanging around the water and finding the best food in the city.
Alissa Rothman, MD

Alissa was born in New York City, and grew up in the NYC suburbs before moving to Iowa City when she was eleven. She earned her BA in neuroscience from Amherst College. She then moved to Baltimore to work as a clinical research coordinator at the Johns Hopkins Multiple Sclerosis center for two years before starting medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. During medical school she continued to develop her passion for clinical research, and she hopes to pursue a career that combines clinical practice, research and medical education. Alissa loves going on runs by the harbor, exploring the Baltimore City food scene, hiking in local state parks, reading, watching TV/movies and spending time with family and friends. She is very excited to continue her medical training at Hopkins as part of the Osler Medicine Residency, and she feels exceedingly fortunate work and learn alongside her amazingly dedicated, compassionate and intelligent co-residents.

Antonio Salas was born in Bethesda, Maryland and grew up in the suburbs of Phoenix in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, Arizona. He studied biology at Santa Clara University and spent a year after undergrad at the NIH researching Cryptococcus gattii before coming to Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His hobbies include guitar, playing basketball, snowboarding, hiking, and running. He decided to stay at Hopkins due to the longitudinal mentorship formed with the ACS system, robust research opportunities, and rigorous clinical training of the Osler program. Outside of the hospital, he can be found running in Patterson Park, exploring hiking trails near Baltimore, or playing guitar with the remaining members of Cassie & the Bruits.

James grew up as the youngest of four boys just outside of the ever-zesty New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Yale University for his undergraduate years and majored in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He headed back southward for medical school at Duke; during that time, he developed an interest in cardiac electrophysiology and spent a Sarnoff Fellowship year at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he conducted research on arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. In his spare time, James enjoys playing tennis, cooking his family’s Cajun recipes, and pretending to understand Formula 1 racing. James believes that the best aspects of the Osler residency are the longitudinal camaraderie and growth fostered through the firm system. Thus far, his favorite activities in Baltimore are eating/sailboat-viewing at the Canton waterfront, running through Patterson Park, and visiting Professor Trash Wheel.

She continued her tour of the continental US when she moved to Baltimore for medical school at Johns Hopkins. She loved it so much that she decided to stay for residency! When she's not working, she enjoys dog-sitting, working out, and making pizza from scratch for her friends. She is looking forward to exploring the Baltimore waterfront and learning with her brilliant co-residents in the Osler Medical Training Program.

Joe was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. In 2007, he transitioned to the United States to became a Haverford College squirrel (yes, our mascot is a squirrel) to study Philosophy and Molecular Biology. He spent a couple of years studying hematopoiesis at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in manhattan, before joining the MSTP program at Johns Hopkins. His graduate research was in epigenetic mechanisms of fibrosis, which has significantly influenced his career interests in the application of human genetics to predict and modify the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Joe loves hosting boys-night-out for his incredible son Asher (which is basically pizza + legos), and loves scoping out new food with his amazing^2 wife. What Joe loves most about the Osler program are his co-interns and fearless leaders. It's pretty amazing to be surrounded by such amazingly gifted and compassionate people every day. Andrea was born in Mexico and raised in El Paso, Texas. She also got married during this year off, whoop! As a National Health Service Corps scholar, she will be spending at least 3 years working at an HPSA site post residency and then plans to return to her hometown to influence the primary care scene there. Find her dancing or doing yoga in her home studio. She enjoys the Osler residency firm system that makes this large institution feel more like a family. She looks forward to being surrounded by so many bodies of water as she hopes to one day master a handstand on a paddle board.

Sam is originally from Milwaukee, WI (Go Bucks!). He completed his undergraduate studies in public health and biology at Saint Louis University in Missouri. Upon graduation, Sam made his first journey outside the Midwest for a year-long global health fellowship in Haiti's Central Plateau. He further developed his interest in global health and infectious diseases during medical school at the University of Wisconsin. He had the opportunity to spend a summer in northern India working with TB control efforts in the Tibetan exile community. He is a casual scuba diver, avid pickup basketball player, and huge Cheesehead—loyal to all things Wisconsin sports. Since moving to Baltimore, he has enjoyed exploring the local restaurants, farmers markets, and dog parks with his wife, Mary, and their golden retriever, Shadow. So far, Sam has been blown away by his JARS’ and SARS’ clinical acumen, compassion, and unwavering willingness to teach, and would be thrilled to gain a fraction of their experience and equanimity by the end of his intern year.

Iris Trutzer, MD, PhD

Iris grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and Spanish from the Johns Hopkins University, where she developed an interest in studying and addressing the social determinants of health. Iris then returned to Boston to complete her MD/PhD training at Boston University. There, she studied the postnatal development of prefrontal cortical circuits and changes in their developmental trajectories in individuals with autism. Outside of medicine, Iris enjoys exploring the many restaurants (and delicious ice cream shops!) in Baltimore, as well as spending time in the neighborhoods and walking trails of the waterfront. Iris has greatly enjoyed working with her co-residents and ACS, and she looks forward to continuing to learn from them and from her patients in the years to come.

Michelle grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (as a Duke fan - what a rebel) before venturing down to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Emory University for her undergrad studies. There she discovered her interest for the intersection between sociology and biology. After undergrad, she moved up to Nashville, TN where she completed two years of clinical research in cardiology at Vanderbilt. She then attended the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine for medical school, where she spent most of her free time at Shade Tree, the student-run free clinic (and also where she met co-residents Rohini Chakravarthy and Kathleen Hiltz!!). Since being at Hopkins, she has been blown away by the collegiality and team-mentality of the community. Her co-residents constantly inspire her with their genuine empathy for their patients, clinical brilliance, humility, social advocacy, and impressive work ethic--truly incredible humans. Outside of medicine, Michelle loves spending time exploring Baltimore on foot with her fiance, Jake, and their dog, Earl.
