Alternate Pathway
Program Director: Atif Zaheer, M.D.
At Johns Hopkins, the required training for Alternate Pathway can be accomplished by combining year-long fellowships in one or more of the following divisions:
- Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship
- Cross Sectional Body Imaging Fellowship
- Emergency Radiology Fellowship
- MRI Body Imaging Fellowship
- Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship
- Neuroradiology Fellowship
- Nuclear Medicine Clinical Pet CT Fellowship
- Pediatric Radiology Fellowship
You may express preferences for the combination of years of radiology training, and we will attempt to offer a 4-year pathway that meets this as much as possible. Please note that our training positions are limited, and you may be offered a 4-year pathway different from your initial request. Alternate Pathway candidates can expect to fully function at the level of a fellow during their time in any of the Radiology divisions. We also accept candidates who want to complete their final 1-2 years of alternative pathway as an attending.
Our program goal is that, once started, candidates will complete the entire 4-year pathway, with ongoing renewal dependent on meeting the department minimum standards for clinical competency, performance and professionalism. There may be the possibility of satisfying 1 of the 4 years as an attending Radiologist for exceptional candidates that meet departmental performance criteria and both Maryland licensure and USCIS requirements; contingent on staffing needs.
As a study resource, Alternate Pathway fellows receive access to the same online ABR Exam preparation resources which JHU Diagnostic Radiology Residents use.
