Emergency Radiology Fellowship

Program Director: James Facciola, MD

The dedicated Emergency Radiology Fellowship is a rigorous 12-month, high-volume imaging fellowship which will expose fellows to a wide spectrum of imaging performed at Johns Hopkins across all specialties, including advanced body, cardiac and neuro imaging techniques.

The Emergency Radiology Fellowship will provide fellow with a well-rounded education in trauma and non-trauma acute care imaging that can serve as a solid foundation for a career in private practice or academic Emergency Radiology.

The radiology department’s diagnostic division has three main locations, all residing at the East Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins Bayview campuses: an Emergency and inpatient service at the Johns Hopkins Hospital -- Sheikh Zayed Tower and at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Centre, an outpatient service, and a separate oncology department.

The resources available for Emergency Radiology fellows at Hopkins are exceptional. There is a high volume of imaging studies performed by our busy Emergency department and of acutely ill patients by inpatient teams. Primary teaching will occur in one-on-one sessions throughout the clinical day with attendings from our dedicated neuroradiology and body imaging section. Fellows will have dedicated rotations in Abdominal Imaging, cardiothoracic imaging, musculoskeletal trauma and neuroradiology.

Emergency radiology fellows will immensely gain from the multidisciplinary approach provided at Johns Hopkins by our excellent collaboration with other medical specialties, such as emergency medicine, trauma surgery, vascular surgery and critical care, which is a major strength of the Hopkins system. Fellows will attend daily interesting case conferences and weekly didactic conferences provided by our excellent radiology faculty. The fellowship also provides ample opportunity for teaching residents and medical students and research opportunities.

Overall, this fellowship will provide a comprehensive training in various aspects of Emergency Radiology to prepare fellows with the knowledge and experience to produce highly skilled radiologists who can contribute to improved patient outcomes in emergency settings.

Applications for the Emergency Radiology Fellowships beginning July 1, 2026, are closed.

We will begin accepting applications for the 2027-2028 Emergency Radiology Fellowship on November 1, 2025. Virtual interviews will begin on January 12, 2026, and will conclude on March 31, 2026, or once all available positions have been filled.
