Cross-Sectional Body Imaging Fellowship

Director: Atif Zaheer, M.D.

Applications for the Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowships beginning July 1, 2024 are closed.

We will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Cross Sectional Imaging Fellowship on November 1, 2023.

Virtual interviews will begin on January 8, 2024 and will conclude on March 31, 2024, or once all available positions have been filled.

The radiology department’s diagnostic division has three main locations, all residing at the East Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins Bayview campuses: an inpatient service at the Johns Hopkins Hospital -- Sheikh Zayed Tower, an outpatient service, and a separate oncology department.

The primary mission of the fellowship is to provide superior clinical training in advanced CT, ultrasound and MR imaging of the body. This mission is accomplished by the dedication of faculty members who are deeply committed to resident and fellow education.

The fellowship offers an unparalleled educational and clinical experience, thanks to the volume, variety and breadth of pathology seen every day. As a fellow, you will work side by side with nationally and internationally acclaimed academic radiologists, and you will interact with world-renowned clinicians.

There are daily conferences for the fellows including case conferences and didactic lectures given by the faculty in the cross-sectional imaging section. In addition, there is a monthly fellow conference where fellows present interesting cases for discussion. There are also a variety of interdisciplinary conferences that fellows are encouraged to attend.

Cross-sectional fellows will be trained in the comprehensive use and interpretation of the latest imaging techniques, including 3-D imaging, and will learn protocol design and development. Fellows will also learn indications and will become proficient in a wide variety of percutaneous interventional procedures.

The fellowship is divided into 13 blocks of four weeks each: body MR (four blocks), body CT (four blocks), cardiothoracic imaging (one block), ultrasound (two blocks), image guided biopsy service (one block) and four electives (one block). The elective options are: MRI, Biopsy, Cardiothoracic, Oncologic Imaging & Multidisciplinary Conferences.

In addition, one day per week of general diagnostic radiology, plain film and fluoroscopy is built into the rotations

Candidates MUST be board eligible or certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology and hold or be eligible for a permanent medical license in Maryland.
