Abstract Submission for the Quality, Safety, and Service Summit

The Armstrong Institute invites you to submit an abstract to be considered for a podium or poster presentation at the 13th Annual Quality, Safety and Service Summit to be held at the Johns Hopkins Hospital on October 16, 2026.

All individuals involved in the study must be listed in the Authors section of the submission form in Ex ordo. If the study was supported in full or in part by a grant, include the grant number and granting organization in the funding section on the Title page.

All selected abstracts will be included in the proceedings of the 13th Annual Quality, Safety and Service Summit, which will not be copyrighted or prohibit future publication.

Submissions from Johns Hopkins Medicine faculty and staff may have additional opportunities to present their work as part of the inaugural Celebrating Quality, Safety and Service Excellence at JHM on October 15, 2026. Please see the Pre-Summit event details on the website for more information.

Presentation Types

Podium Sessions

Podium sessions consist of presentations of completed research or projects. Research results or project outcomes must be described in these abstracts. Only projects that will be completed at the time of the Summit will be considered for podium presentations. 

Poster Presentations

A poster presentation is a visual display of completed or in-progress work. Please provide evidence in the abstract that data collection is in progress. Completed research, projects and theory development/conceptual papers are also eligible for poster presentation.

The display area allocated to each poster is up to 4' x  3’. Tables will not be available.

Selection Criteria

Members of the Abstract Selection Committee, made up of qualified interdisciplinary experts, will independently review abstracts.  Abstracts will be evaluated for their significance, impact, innovation, approach and effectiveness, and will be chosen based on scientific merit.

General Requirements

Abstracts should reflect or include:

  • Background and overall significance for quality, safety and/or service
  • Purposes/aims
  • Rationale/conceptual basis/background
  • Methods/project design
  • Assessment of findings/outcomes achieved
  • Conclusions/implications/applications (including next steps and recommendations for changes in organizational or clinical practices, education or future undertakings)

Note: This year’s Summit will include options focused on transitions of care. Submissions in all areas are welcome and selections will include a range of topics.

CE Information

We collect the required information for the CE application form at the time you submit your abstract(s). If applying for podium presentations, you will need to provide the following information when submitting your abstracts:

  • Learning outcomes: State at least one learning outcome for each abstract.
  • Topics: Identify the related content (topics) and cite the evidence-based references used in developing the content.
  • Conflict of interest form (COI): The COI will be populated with information supplied when an abstract is submitted. In addition, each presenter will complete the COI form, including an electronic signature, as part of their abstract submission. The abstract submission will not be complete until the COI form(s) are completed and signed.  

Selection, Notification, Registration and Logistics

Notifications will be sent via email in June. Abstracts accepted for podium presentations at the Summit will be assigned times and allotted 30 minutes on the conference agenda. If the primary author of an abstract is unable to attend, another qualified author may present the paper or poster, and that individual must register for the conference. The conference registration form and schedule will be available on the event website.

There is NO FEE for abstract submission. All podium and poster presenters selected must register to attend the summit. Registration fees for the 2026 conference are as follows:

  • Individual: $549 Early bird discount
  • Student: $325 Early bird discount
  • Johns Hopkins Medicine employees: Complimentary
  • Johns Hopkins University faculty and staff: Covered by tuition remission (Requirements)
