Physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation are called "physiatrists." They diagnose and treat patients with musculoskeletal injuries and pain syndromes, neurological disorders and other conditions affecting nearly every aspect of physical and cognitive functioning. They are also trained in using electrodiagnostic medicine for the evaluation of various conditions. Many Johns Hopkins physiatrists are not only highly trained doctors, but also active researchers in the field of rehabilitation who teach future leaders in the specialty.
