Clinical Electives for Medical Students at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

The Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Office of Medical Education invites 4th-year medical students to apply for clinical electives. Our electives offer opportunities to work with pediatric specialists at our Saint Petersburg campus and gain experience in various pediatric subspecialties.

Who Can Apply

We welcome applications from 4th-year medical students who:

  • Attend LCME or COCA accredited schools
  • Have successfully completed a pediatrics clerkship
  • Are U.S. citizens or citizens of U.S. territories

Elective Offerings

We offer 4-week clinical electives (one per academic year) in the following pediatric specialties:

  • Cardiology
  • Child Neurology
  • Critical Care Medicine (PICU)
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Genetics
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Infectious Disease
  • Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NICU)
  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology
  • Pediatric Surgery

NEW: VSLO Application Process for 2025-2026

Starting with the 2025-2026 academic year, we will accept applications through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) platform.

What is VSLO?

VSLO is the AAMC's centralized application service that simplifies the process for visiting students. Through VSLO, you can:

  • View elective descriptions and requirements
  • Submit all application materials in one place
  • Track your application status
  • Receive application notifications

Application Requirements

Among other particulars, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • Your CV
  • Official transcripts
  • A personal statement explaining your interest in completing a rotation at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

Priority Consideration

We give priority consideration to students who:

  • Need a rotation unavailable at their home institution
  • Have connections to the Tampa Bay area
