To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community
Dear Colleagues,
After a national search led by Suburban Hospital’s board of trustees, I am pleased to announce that Jessica Melton, M.H.A., will join Suburban Hospital as president and chief operating officer, effective April 15. Jessica will have direct oversight for Suburban Hospital’s inpatient and ambulatory services and will lead the hospital’s quality and safety programs and financial initiatives, reporting to me and Suburban Hospital’s board of trustees. She will also contribute to strategic growth in the National Capital Region, while ensuring that plans align with and support Suburban’s daily operations.
Jessica joins Suburban Hospital from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she serves as chief operating officer, overseeing daily operations, quality and safety, and physician partnerships. Before arriving at Sentara, she held progressive leadership roles at Duke University Hospital, including vice president of medical, surgical and critical care services, vice president of emergency services and patient flow, administrative director of emergency preparedness and trauma, and director of the Duke Preparedness and Response Center.
Jessica received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and her Master of Healthcare Administration with concentrations in finance, community preparedness and disaster management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her administrative fellowship at Duke University Hospital, and received Six Sigma training and certification as an executive coach through North Carolina State University. She is a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives, the American College of Healthcare Executives and Delta Omega honor society.
Please join me in welcoming Jessica to Suburban Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Carpenter, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E.
