Alvin 'Joe' D'Angelo

Alvin "Joe" D'Angelo, M.S., M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., is the Vice President of Operations at Suburban Hospital. In this role, he leads day-to-day operations and provides administrative oversight of a number of key support and ancillary departments. Joe works with leaders throughout the hospital, National Capital Region and Johns Hopkins Health System to ensure the delivery of outstanding outcomes, experience, and value for our patients and their families.

Prior to joining Suburban Hospital, Joe served as vice president of operations for Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, where he was responsible for leading large clinical and administrative teams in managing complex day-to-day hospital operations for Emory's Dekalb Operating Unit. Joe also served in several key leadership capacities at Duke University Health System, including administrative director of ambulatory care operations, where he provided leadership and operational oversight for multiple hospital-based surgical clinics that included 18 different specialties and subspecialties.

As a champion for diversity, equity and inclusion, Joe served as a staff instructor for diversity and inclusion while at Duke, guiding conversations on creating a diverse and inclusive work environment for patients and staff. He was also the 2020-21 diversity and inclusion chair for the Triangle Healthcare Executives' Forum, an independent chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, where he led diversity and inclusion programming for more than 700 members.

Joe holds a Master of Healthcare Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology from the University of South Carolina as well as a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He also completed advanced training and certification as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt practitioner and a Kaizen – Rapid Improvement Event Facilitator, both from North Carolina State University. A recipient of many professional awards and recognitions, Joe is an active member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Parliamentarian and Executive Board member for the National Association of Health Services Executives – Atlanta Chapter.
