Alvin 'Joe' D'Angelo

Alvin "Joe" D'Angelo, M.S., M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., is the vice president of regional operations for Johns Hopkins Health System’s National Capital Region (NCR). Joe provides executive leadership of clinical operations, strategic planning and multidisciplinary planning for Suburban Hospital and radiation oncology in the NCR at Sibley Memorial Hospital, which includes the Johns Hopkins Proton Therapy Center, and at Johns Hopkins Radiation Oncology at Bethesda. In his role at Suburban Hospital, he leads day-to-day operations and provides administrative oversight of several key support and ancillary departments. In his radiation oncology operations role, he oversees teams and facilities, including five linear accelerators and three proton gantries, among other technologies. Joe works with leaders throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine to ensure the delivery of outstanding outcomes, experience, and value for our patients and their families.

Prior to joining the organization, Joe served as vice president of operations for Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, where he was responsible for leading large clinical and administrative teams in managing complex day-to-day hospital operations for Emory. Joe also served in several key leadership capacities during his time at Duke University Health System, including administrative director of ambulatory care operations, where he provided leadership and operational oversight for multiple hospital-based surgical clinics that included 18 different specialties and subspecialties.

Joe holds a master of healthcare administration and a bachelor of science in biomechanics and exercise physiology from the University of South Carolina as well as a master of science in systems engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He also completed advanced training and certification as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt practitioner and a Kaizen – Rapid Improvement Event Facilitator, both from North Carolina State University. A recipient of many professional awards and recognitions, Joe is an active member and fellow (FACHE) of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives.
