Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship: Research
Research fellowships in the musculoskeletal radiology section at Johns Hopkins are offered to scientists, physicians or medical trainees to study the applications of musculoskeletal imaging. Typically, these fellowships are for a period of six months to two years. The positions require research in a mutually beneficial subject area. The experience can include work in the laboratory as well as participation in clinical studies. The fellow is a member of a multidisciplinary group that includes radiologists, rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiatrists, physicists and imaging specialists. The position is designed to provide a thorough grounding in the conduct of scientific investigations and a broad exposure to musculoskeletal imaging. The fellow will work with faculty members in the clinical musculoskeletal radiology section and participate on scientific papers and/or scientific exhibits, papers, and posters for presentations at meetings.
Educational Opportunities
Although the primary aim of this program is to provide an opportunity for research, experience in clinical imaging is available. Research fellows are welcome to observe readouts with the house officers. Other educational forums include section-specific, multidisciplinary working conferences; departmental teaching conferences; journal club; Grand Rounds; and institution wide lectures.
Eligibility
- The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine prohibits the acceptance of “self-funded” post-doctoral fellows.
- Accepted sources of funding include (domestic or foreign) universities; colleges; teaching hospitals; recognized research funding agencies; local, state and federal government agencies; established corporate partners and foundations; scholarship councils; or other academic funding organizations.
- For 2013, the minimum support is about $40,000 (US). Appropriate visa status is required (J1) for international fellows.
- Johns Hopkins will supply a workspace, access to computers, information systems and medical insurance for fellow and dependents.
