Before & After Your Visit
Before Your Visit
To ease your admission to the hospital, we will begin your paperwork as soon as your doctor informs us of your admission date. A pre-admission coordinator will call you at home to verify basic information, such as the name of your employer, your home address and the type of insurance you carry.
Before your admission or appointment, remember to discuss your estimated length of stay and anticipated tests and services with your physician. It’s good to be aware of all the details so that you can check to confirm that your insurance provider will cover all of the charges.
Be sure to find out what services, tests and procedures your insurance provider will cover before your appointment or admission. Many insurance carriers have coverage limits on room charges and certain tests, services and procedures. If you aren’t sure which services are covered, contact your insurance company’s member services office before your visit.
Please plan to arrive on time, or even a little early, so that you won’t be rushed as you park and come into the hospital. This will also allow us more time to process your insurance and billing information correctly.
For clinic and outpatient visits, please try to arrive 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow for registration.
For inpatient procedures, please arrive by the specific time requested by our admitting staff or your physician’s office.
To make your visit easier, remember to bring:
- Johns Hopkins identification card, if you received one on a prior visit. (Some Johns Hopkins facilities issue a card with each visit.)
- Health insurance card.
- Picture identification, such as a driver’s license.
- Referral and/or authorization forms, if required by your insurance company.
After Your Visit
After each visit, each Johns Hopkins Medicine facility/affiliate will file valid health insurance claims directly with your primary payer and, if appropriate, your secondary insurance payer. By signing the "Agreement for Care Form," you agree that your Johns Hopkins Medicine healthcare provider can be paid directly by your insurance. Any co-payments and/or outstanding balances not paid by your insurance payer will be billed to you directly. If your insurance payer does not respond within 60 days of receipt of the claim, we may notify you and ask that you contact your insurance payer on our behalf.
