Conditions We Treat: Uneven Pupils

The pupil is the black circle in the center of your eye. Unequally-sized pupils (also known as anisocoria) may be noticed by someone who is looking at you, or you may notice the different sizes when looking in the mirror. Anisocoria can be a normal finding in some people (physiologic anisocoria), or it can be a sign of neurologic condition.

Uneven Pupils: Why Choose Johns Hopkins

  • Johns Hopkins neurologists have the expertise to evaluate and manage patients with anisocoria.
  • With a full understanding of neurological conditions affecting the nerves of the eye that control pupil responses, experts at the Neuro-Visual and Vestibular Center can recommend the most appropriate treatment for each individual.
  • Our multidisciplinary experts can guide you toward treatment for any serious condition resulting in anisocoria.

Uneven Pupils: Treatments

Treatment for uneven pupils depends on the cause. For patients whose pupils are different sizes due to a normal, inborn variation, treatment may not be needed.
