Selwyn Ray, J.D., Named Director, Johns Hopkins Health System Community Relations

Selwyn Ray, J.D.

Selwyn Ray, J.D., has been appointed director of Johns Hopkins Health System Community Relations. His primary responsibilities will be at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and he will also have a broader role for community health outreach for the Johns Hopkins Academic Division. At Hopkins Bayview, Ray will oversee programs to educate and support the Medical Center’s neighbors; lead Johns Hopkins Bayview’s Community Advisory Board; lead the Medical Center’s community health needs assessment and action planning; and participate as a member of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Executive Council. Within the Academic Division, Ray will help develop and strengthen inter-campus and inter-departmental programs to improve the health of neighbors and neighborhoods.

Ray holds a juris doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law and has pursued studies at St. Mary’s Seminary, Ecumenical Institute of Theology. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Ray most recently served as executive director and senior vice president of community engagement for the Maryland Mentoring Resource Center. He also was the interim president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake from 2012 to 2013.

Ray’s leadership and experience in engaging community members, strategically building relationships with local government officials and agencies, and directing community health activities will be assets as he begins his new role.
