Care Plan Oversight Billing

Johns Hopkins Home Health Services wants to be certain that physicians are aware of the reimbursement for their oversight of appropriate Medicare patients receiving home health care. Should you choose to bill for these services, the following is provided for your general information as obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Care plan oversight (CPO) billing is an option for consideration that is determined by your involvement in management of the following for each patient at 100 percent of Medicare for the Baltimore area.

  • Initial certification: HCPC code G0180 = $56.96-Baltimore*
  • Care plan oversight: HCPC code G0181 = $114.17-Baltimore/calendar month*
  • Recertification: HCPC code G0179 = $44.14-Baltimore*

CMS has published extensive guidelines to physicians regarding qualifying criteria for this reimbursement. Please refer to for requirements and complete guidance. We have also included a sample log that you may choose to use to track the time required to qualify for CPO.

We greatly appreciate your support of our organization and its mission to be of service to the community. Your time spent working with our staff members to review the patient’s status, updating our home care orders, and reviewing and signing orders in a timely manner are billable to Medicare when you are overseeing a home health plan of care that meets CMS requirements. If you have any questions, please contact our marketing department at 410-288-8003.
