Selvi Rajagopal, MD MPH

Director, Obesity Medicine Fellowship

Dr. Selvi Rajagopal is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has been practicing as an obesity medicine specialist since 2020. Using her Medicine-Pediatrics background, she has a specific interest in obesity treatment within the emerging adult population. She also focuses clinically on working with women with obesity in conjunction with obstetrics-gynecology and reproductive endocrinology to manage conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and infertility.

Kimberly Gudzune, MD, MPH, FTOS

Director, Healthful Eating, Activity & Weight Program

Dr. Kimberly Gudzune is board-certified in Internal Medicine, a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and a Fellow of The Obesity Society. Dr. Gudzune has been practicing as an obesity medicine specialist since 2010. She directs the Johns Hopkins Healthful Eating, Activity, and Weight Program, and she established the Obesity Medicine Fellowship in 2020. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gudzune maintains an active research and teaching portfolio.

Her research focuses on obesity, specifically how patient obesity influences the healthcare experience, the efficacy of commercial weight-loss programs, and how features of the built and social environment influence lifestyle habits. Her research has won several awards, in addition to being featured by news outlets including The New York Times and National Public Radio. She has been a key educator on obesity medicine at Johns Hopkins through her directorship of the course on obesity, nutrition and behavior change for Johns Hopkins medical students, as well as precepting residents on obesity medicine. She was recognized for her outstanding mentoring of trainees with the 2015 Frederick L. Brancati Excellence in Mentoring Award at Johns Hopkins.

Zoobia Chaudhry, MBBS

Dr. Zoobia Chaudhry is board-certified in Internal Medicine and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has been practicing as an obesity medicine specialist since 2014. She is a passionate clinician-educator, and has been actively involved in training and precepting residents in internal medicine and preventive medicine with a specific emphasis on obesity medicine.

Larry Cheskin, MD

Dr. Larry Cheskin is board-certified in Internal Medicine, and has been practicing obesity medicine since 1990. He is an active clinician and educator on obesity, as well as serving on obesity-related research protocols that have included novel and cutting edge therapies.

Marci Laudenslager, MD MHS

Dr. Marci Laudenslager is board-certified in Internal Medicine and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has been practicing as an obesity medicine specialist since 2020. She is active in medical education research, particularly around improving internal medicine residents’ education on obesity care. She also precepts residents in internal medicine and preventive medicine at the Healthful Eating, Activity & Weight Program.

Michael Schweitzer, MD

Director, Johns Hopkins Obesity Surgery Center

Dr. Michael Schweitzer provides clinical training in bariatric surgery for obesity medicine fellows, which will include outpatient practice as well as observation in the operating room during bariatric surgical procedures. Dr. Schweitzer directs the Johns Hopkins Obesity Surgery Center, and has been performing bariatric surgeries since 1998. The Johns Hopkins Obesity Surgery Center has performed over 5,000 bariatric operations since 1996 and is accredited with the MBSAQIP. Dr. Schweitzer is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He served as the President of the Maryland Chapter of ASMBS from 2014-2015. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Schweitzer trains surgical fellows in bariatric and metabolic surgery.

Ann Scheimann, MD, MBA

Director, Mt. Washington Weigh Smart Program

Dr. Ann Scheimann provides clinical training in pediatric obesity medicine at Mt. Washington Pediatrics Weigh Smart Program. She trained in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, and has extensive experience in obesity including weight management treatment of children and use of motivational interviewing. She has been overseeing pediatric obesity care at the Mt. Washington Pediatrics Weigh Smart Program since 2005. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Scheimann precepts pediatric residents at Johns Hopkins in obesity, nutrition and gastroenterology.

Janelle Coughlin, PhD

Director, Obesity Behavioral Medicine Program

Dr. Janelle Coughlin provides clinical training in obesity-related psychological treatment at the Johns Hopkins Obesity Behavioral Medicine Program. She is a clinical psychologist with specific training and clinical focus on psychological and behavioral treatments of obesity for both adolescents and adults since 2004. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Coughlin supervises several faculty members, postdoctoral fellows and students on psychological and behavioral treatments for obesity.
