Prediabetes

Prediabetes is a condition where your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. This is a common condition and is estimated to affect more than 1 out of 3 adults. People with prediabetes are at greater risk of developing diabetes and other serious health problems. We may be able to help you avoid developing diabetes by making important lifestyle changes.

Patients with prediabetes have an evaluation with one of our specialty physicians. They work with you to create a lifestyle change plan to meet your needs. Our program offers a variety of services for patients with prediabetes:

Diabetes Prevention Program

classroomThe Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a scientifically proven lifestyle change program that can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people with prediabetes participate in a lifestyle change program like the DPP. At the Healthful Eating, Activity and Weight Program, we have a partnership with the Brancati Center, who uses the curriculum approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Visits with Physicians

All patients with prediabetes will have regular visits with physician experts on diabetes prevention. These visits will focus on one-on-one counseling to support your healthy lifestyle changes and may include medication management. These visits are usually covered by insurance.
