Procedures We Offer
- Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB)
- Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
- Laparoscopic single anastomosis duodenal ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-s), also known as loop duodenal switch
- Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y duodenal switch with biliopancreatic diversion
- Revision of previous bariatric surgery, including management or removal of the gastric band, or conversion of a sleeve gastrectomy to a gastric bypass or SADI-s (loop duodenal switch)

Our nurse practitioners help support and educate patients before and after surgery by explaining the surgical procedure and its risks, benefits and possible complications, as well as guiding patients through recovery.

The bariatric nurse coordinator provides education, follow-up care and support to patients and the community. She also supports the surgical team and collaborates with the multispecialty team to ensure high-quality patient care.

Our bariatric dietitians offer nutrition education to help each patient develop healthy eating habits and understand post-weight loss surgery dietary restrictions, behavioral changes and supplements to help ensure long-term success.

Our patients also have access to the Healthful Eating, Activity, and Weight Program and its staff of obesity medicine physicians.

Working closely with the Obesity Behavioral Medicine Program, our psychologists help patients address mental health concerns that could contribute to or result from unhealthy eating habits. They can help with anxiety, addiction, depression, self-esteem problems and more. Our psychologists also provide presurgical evaluation and clearance to ensure you understand the implications of the surgery and are committed to the lifestyle change.

Physical and occupational therapists play an important role during recovery after bariatric surgery. While you are in the hospital, they will help you out of bed and help with walking and getting around. They will also teach you exercises you can do when you come home. Mobility right after surgery is key to helping prevent complications and speeding up recovery.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
We are the only bariatric surgery program in Maryland to earn accreditation from MBSAQIP as a Comprehensive Center with Adult and Adolescent Qualifications.
Blue Distinction Center+
This Blue Cross Blue Shield designation means that our program surpasses the requirements for quality, efficiency and safety of care, surgical expertise and patient outcomes.
Aetna Institute of Quality
This Aetna designation means that our program meets Aetna’s standards of quality and cost efficiency in bariatric surgery.
Number of Surgeries
Our team has performed more than 8,000 bariatric procedures, averaging about 200 surgeries a year, all while having a low rate of major complications.
