These training programs are taken in sequence. First, a leadership team participates in the Implementing RISE workshop. Several months later, have a group of employee volunteers attend RISE Peer Responder Basic Training. Each of these one-day programs is typically held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., but the timing can be adjusted to fit your schedule.

Module 1: Define the Problem

  • Surveying your own organization to assess second victims’ needs and build the case for a peer support program
  • Ways to engage key stakeholders to align organizational goals with the RISE program

Detailed process steps and timelines to help your team set realistic goals for program implementation


Module 3: Develop Your RISE Peer Responder Team
Approaches to recruit the right peer responders, support those responders, and promote sustainability among the team

Module 4: Roll Out RISE
Strategies and tactics to ensure a smooth rollout of RISE, and get staff ready and excited for this new service

Module 5: Sustain Peer Responders and Measure Success
Data collection tools, marketing concepts and leadership tactics to promote peer responder retention and RISE service use

Module 1: Introduction and Background

  • Understanding the complexities and stresses of the health care environment, along with the profound effects that acute and chronic stress can have on health care professionals

Module 2: Value of the RISE Intervention

  • Getting a stressed individual back into the “resilient zone” through confidential, non-threatening and objective peer support

Module 3: The RISE Intervention

  • The seven principles for peer responders, and understanding which responses can be helpful and which can be harmful

Module 4: Application of Principles and skills

  • Using role-play, apply the principles of psychological first aid and emotional support to get callers back into the “resilient zone”

Module 5: Keeping within the Scope

  • Situations that may extend beyond the scope of RISE and preparing for challenging situations
