The Sheikh Zayed Tower and The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center opened May 1, 2012 to provide state-of-the-art facilities and services for patients, families and visitors. From the moment you step into the soaring lobby, you'll enter a healing environment that supports the visionary care that The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been delivering for more than a century. Take a video tour We're reinventing everything a hospital should be.
How We Have Improved Your Experience
Replacing half of the original hospital, the two new 12-story patient care towers occupy five acres of our East Baltimore medical campus. The hospital's entryway features one continuous airport-style canopy, shielding you from bad weather as you arrive. All areas of the hospital, including the adult and pediatric emergency rooms, are accessible through this single entrance.
When you stay in our new facilities you will enjoy one of 560 spacious private rooms with private baths, walk-in showers, and sleep sofas for families. You'll benefit from a quieter, more restful environment in spaces design to absorb noise, and technology that eliminates overhead paging of nurses. You can use our new interactive television network in your room to learn more about your health care team and to access the Internet for free.
During your hospital stay, you and your visitors will enjoy hotel-style amenities, including valet parking, and free wireless internet access. Public spaces include a modern food court and shops, landscaped gardens for meditation and reflection, and a two-story indoor play area for children.
Customized Food Service
Oncology, pediatric and obstetric patients can order meals on demand, and all patients can choose from a wide range of dining options customized to meet their nutritional needs and preferences. Patients and guests can enjoy the new Balducci's Food Lovers Market located in the Zayed Tower, and healthy dining options ranging from a casual breakfast to a full-service dinner, all without leaving the hospital.
An Environment of Beauty
The hospital's elegant interior features natural materials, like terrazzo floors and marble and limestone walls, and a dramatic art collection with pieces from renowned artists on display throughout the hospital.
New Emergency Department
For both adults and children seeking emergency care, our bright, spacious, new emergency department offers easily accessible emergency entrances, the most sophisticated radiology services in the country, and convenient parking. The new emergency department includes 99 private exam rooms (67 adult and 32 pediatric), six trauma care rooms, and comfortable reception areas with ample seating.
