The Emergency Department (ER)

The Emergency Department entrance of The Johns Hopkins Hospital is located next to the front entrance of the hospital, located at 1800 Orleans Street.


Drop-Off Area: Patients and family members may be dropped off at the front entrance by using the easy to access front driveway of the main hospital.


Parking: Parking available for a fee at the Orleans Street Garage, located directly across from the hospital main entrance.

The Emergency Department has been designed to enhance every aspect of the patient-centered care experience. The clinical area features the latest technologies in health care to complement our world-class emergency physicians, nurses and other health care providers.

There is a covered ambulance bay area, accessed off Wolfe Street between East Monument Street and Orleans Street.

Johns Hopkins Emergency Department
The Emergency Department is located at the front of the hospital, adjacent to the main entrance.
Emergency Department heliport
The heliport features two helipads so that multiple emergency cases can be handled at the same time.

Maryland State Police use the JH Emergency Dept. helipad
Maryland State Police are among the institutions that will use the helipad to get emergency patients to Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The Emergency Department’s radiology suite features a spacious reading room.

The Emergency Department’s internal reception area offers patients’ family members a place to relax.

Work areas for doctors, nurses and other clinical staff are designed to provide quick access to patients and the latest medical technologies.
Emergency Department pneumatic tube system
Emergency Department work stations feature quick access to a pneumatic tube system for sending blood samples to the hospital’s Core Lab for testing.
Emergency Acute Care Unit (EACU)
The Emergency Acute Care Unit (EACU) is fully integrated into the new Emergency Department.
