Campus Transformation

Drawing of proposed new Suburban Hospital campus Artist's rendering of Suburban Hospital's campus transformation.

Suburban Hospital has been an essential part of the local community for 75 years, caring for the residents of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the greater Washington region. As the County's only designated trauma center and a primary stroke center, we provide highly specialized, complex care to help patients and their families when they need us most.

Our local community has evolved tremendously since Suburban Hospital first opened its doors. To meet current demands and address the growing healthcare needs of the community, Suburban Hospital is building for the future with a campus addition.

The first phase of construction, which was completed in July 2018, includes a seven-story parking garage, the installation of beautiful landscaping and other campus improvements. Construction is now underway on the new hospital addition. The new lobby and conference center will open in fall 2019 and new patient care areas will open in early 2020. What will not change is the exceptional care we provide to the community.

More Services Conveniently Located to Better Serve You

The Suburban Hospital campus will be in the same convenient location on Old Georgetown Road, just north of downtown Bethesda and directly across from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with whom we have an important medical partnership. The new 300,000 foot building will be adjacent to the current building and connected by a bright and airy breezeway. Our plans comprise a number of enhanced and expanded services to better serve you and your loved ones, including:

  • High-tech operating rooms with hybrid and robotic technologies
  • State-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs
  • All private medical and surgical patient rooms
  • Convenient, on-site physician offices for specialty care
  • A patient and family resource center
