Clinical Ladder for Advancement

Known as the Advancement in Clinical Excellence (ACE) for RNs program, the Johns Hopkins Bayview clinical ladder is designed to cultivate leaders and role models for professional nursing practice in one or more of the following areas:

  • Clinical expert
  • Staff or patient educator
  • Specialized resource nurse
  • Nurse manager
  • Evidence-based practice research nurse

Nurse Externship

Johns Hopkins Bayview partners with local educational institutions to offer nurse externships, designed to give nursing students short, practical experiences in care delivery on our campus. Learn more here.

Additionally, we offer a paid eight-week mentored program for nursing students each summer. Students practice the skills they've learned throughout the year, while developing new talents in the process. A hands-on curriculum is complemented with classroom presentations.

On the unit and in the classroom, nursing students at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center are continually learning to improve both their careers and the care they provide. Surrounded by experienced and caring staff and guided by a personal RN mentor, students achieve the level of excellence that is the Hopkins standard.

Qualifications

To participate in the program, students are required to have:

  • At least a 3.0 GPA
  • Nursing Fundamentals completed
  • A minimum of one clinical rotation completed (by the start of the program in June)
  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program

Graduate Nurse Residency Programs

The new graduate Nurse Residency Program is designed to ease the transition from nursing student to skilled RN. New graduates are coached into independence by our experienced and accomplished nursing staff. 

Each cohort receives a strategic, planned blend of classroom and hands-on experience.
