For Referring Physicians
If you have a patient you would like to refer to the Kelly Gynecologic Oncology Service, please call 410-955-8240, then select option 3. Time is of the essence in treating gynecologic cancers. That’s why we have an expedited process to get your patient into our office as soon as possible. We are happy to partner with you to provide the best care possible and will regularly update you on your patient’s status.
Preparing For Your Appointment
If this is your first time visiting a Johns Hopkins doctor, our staff will ask you to provide us with information about:
- Your general health
- Your previous diagnosis and treatments
- Your health insurance card and/or information
What to Bring to Your Appointment
Including your health insurance card, you should bring the following with you to your appointment:

If your insurance company requires you to obtain a referral from your gynecologist or primary care physician before seeing a specialist doctor, please bring it with you.

This should include any tests you may have had done, including bloodwork, surgical reports or biopsy reports from other hospitals. Sometimes your doctor will forward this information directly to our office. Please give us a call a few days before your appointment to make sure we have received your charts/records.

Please bring your pathology reports and request that your pathology slides be sent to Johns Hopkins for review by our gynecologic pathologists. Please request these materials from your physician and have the pathology slides sent to:

Our staff prefers that you bring the actual medication bottles, but if this is not possible, you can also bring a written list. Be sure to include the medication name, including the generic substitution, the number of milligrams and how many times a day you are directed to take the medicine. Also, include any directions, such as “take with food.”

Financial Information
Learn more about medical billing and pay your bill online. Listed below are some frequently asked questions about billing and health insurance.

Patients receive two types of billing statements that represent a summary of all charges:
- Hospital statements, which reflect facility charges (inpatient rooms, equipment, etc.)
- Physicians’ statements, which represent the doctors’ charges; itemized bills are available upon request

Most of the time, insurance companies will cover the cost of treatment. Patients may be responsible for certain costs and should refer to their individual policies for specific terms of coverage and exclusions.

A balance on your bill may just mean that you still have claims pending with your insurance company. If a claim has been denied by your insurance company, you will receive notification.

Patients without medical insurance should contact a financial counselor. The counselor will work with the patient and billing departments to set up payment arrangements.
