The Center for Medicine and Law
Founded in July 2011, the Center for Medicine and Law is a collaborative effort between Johns Hopkins University and the University of Baltimore School of Law. Its primary mission is to foster collaboration between the two professions by allowing health providers and attorneys to work together and with other stakeholders on the critical health law issues of our time.
A primary goal of the Center is to educate both professions in a collaborative, rather than adversarial environment, while addressing the needs of each profession, patients, policy makers, and the public at large.
The center sponsors events, such as conferences, research scholarship and educational programs on a variety of key topics at the intersection of medicine and law. Center Faculty work collaboratively on a range of health law issues including: tort reform, patient safety, access to health care, health insurance reimbursement and bioethics.
An important part of the Center’s mission is to serve as an objective and informative resource for health related professions, policymakers, the media, the public, and other academic Institutes with similar interests.
The Center’s senior co-directors are:
- Frederick Levy, M.D., J.D., Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
- Gregory Dolin, M.D., J.D., Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law.
