The Center for Pediatric Population and Preventive Health creates dynamic partnerships among researchers, health departments and community organizations to adopt a transformative approach to pediatric health that extends beyond hospital walls or disease treatment to actively reduce unplanned hospitalization and promote wellness among children in St. Petersburg, Florida; the Tampa Bay region; and beyond.
Goals
The goals of the center are:
- To create a collaborative space for multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, researchers, public health experts, and community partners to conduct pediatric population and preventive health research to develop and translate evidence-based interventions that can be implemented in schools, homes and communities (locally, regionally and beyond) to address the needs of all children.
- To build and enhance community capacity by addressing barriers that prevent communities and community-based organizations from promoting health effectively or participating in research.
- To bridge the research-operations divide and accelerate Johns Hopkins All Children’s development as a "learning healthcare system" where research continuously informs practice.
- To create safety net registry programs to maintain registries of patients with personal predispositions and/or family histories of specific conditions, enabling targeted monitoring and early intervention for high-risk children.
