Meet our team:
Rita Driggers, M.D., FACOG

Rita Driggers, M.D., FACOG
Medical Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine Program

Medical degree: University of Tennessee
Residency: Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
Fellowship: The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Dr. Driggers is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine. She served in the U.S. Navy for 14 years when she was recruited to become the program director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She has been involved in American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) activities at the section, district and national levels. She recently completed her service as a member of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) Education Committee and is currently an American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ABOG) general oral board examiner.

Julia Timofeev, M.D., FACOG

Julia Timofeev, M.D., FACOG

Residency: University of Virginia
Fellowship: MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Hospital

Dr. Timofeev is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is an active candidate for board certification in maternal-fetal medicine. During her fellowship, she researched preterm birth and prematurity, delayed umbilical cord clamping and the effects of maternal age on pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Timofeev was recognized by fellow colleagues and residents for teaching efforts as the Fellow of the Year in 2011—2012. She is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Val Kantor, MGC, CGC

Val Kantor, MGC, CGC
Genetic Counselor

Master’s degree: University of Maryland, Baltimore

Val has her master’s degree in genetic counseling and received her certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling. During her graduate school training, Val took an interest in prenatal genetics and used a number of her rotations and internships to work in high-risk obstetric clinics. Since graduating, Val has worked as the sole genetic counselor at two maternal fetal medicine centers prior to joining the Maternal Fetal Medicine Program at Sibley Memorial Hospital. She has taken a special interest in noninvasive prenatal screening and has attended a multitude of meetings and conferences focusing on this subject. Val is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

Laurie L. King, RDMS

Laurie L. King, RDMS
Chief Obstetric Sonographer

Ultrasound training: Montgomery College

Laurie has 14 years of sonography experience and is board certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Her passion is obstetric sonography, and she has been performing ultrasounds on high-risk obstetrics patients for more than 10 years. She is a member of the American Institute of Medicine (AIUM) and serves as a reviewer of sites wishing to become AIUM accredited.

Beverly Suero, RN, MSN
Maternal Fetal Medicine Nurse

Master’s Degree: Howard University

Beverly received her bachelor of science in nursing from Columbia Union College and her master of science in nursing from Howard University. She has been part of Sibley since 1998 and brings 17 years of labor and delivery experience to the group.

Juanita Alford, RN

Juanita Alford, RN
Maternal Fetal Medicine Nurse, Diabetes Educator

Nursing school: Riverside School of Professional Nursing

Nita has over 10 years of nursing experience. She graduated from Riverside School of Professional Nursing in 2003. She began her nursing career on a cardiac critical care unit in Newport News, Va., where she worked for three years. In 2006 she transferred to a labor and delivery unit in Scottsdale, Ariz. Since then she has worked in various labor and delivery units from Arizona to Virginia, Maryland and D.C.
