About the Sullivan Breast Center

The Sullivan Breast Center is dedicated to breast health, and to the care and treatment of breast cancer. Staffed by experts from Johns Hopkins, the most advanced diagnostics and care are now available in Washington, D.C.

Dedicated imaging radiologists and staff work with women to provide the most appropriate screening mammograms, follow up biopsies if needed, and are integrated in the center’s breast cancer program.

Breast cancer specialists work as a team to ensure the highest quality of care. Each patient’s case is discussed by breast radiologists, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, pain medicine specialists, oncology nurses and other specialists that make up the breast conference team. Together, our experts explores all possible treatment options to recommend the ideal breast treatment plan.

Concerning Symptoms

Early detection and diagnosis is one of the most important elements of a successful treatment. Some symptoms of breast cancer include:

  • Nipple discharge
  • Nipple inversion
  • New palpable breast mass
  •  Skin  changes

If you are experiencing these symptoms, please call your primary care provider to order diagnostic imaging and an ultrasound.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer

The Sullivan Breast Center diagnoses and treats may women in the D.C. region. We have an efficient, anxiety-reducing process, including rapid turnaround times for biopsy results.

Our breast cancer surgeons discuss options with each patient. Specializations include oncoplastic techniques, nipple sparing mastectomy, prophylactic mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and breast reconstruction (i.e. implants, DIEP flap).

Navigating Your journey

Whether you need additional mammograms, a biopsy or treatment for breast cancer, our dedicated navigator is here to provide information and support. We help our patients get to the right doctor and treatment at the right time, and help to guide each patient on her journey, no matter how simple or complex. Our goal is to make this experience less anxiety producing.

Full Support

We help breast cancer patients and their families by supporting the whole person during breast cancer treatment and on into recovery. Our support teams and programs help patients and their families manage both the medical and many non-medical aspects of dealing with breast cancer treatment.
