Arteriovascular Malformation (AVM)
Arteriovascular Malformation (AVM)

Our team, led by Amir Dorafshar, with assistance from radiologist Monica Pearl, repaired the arteriovascular malformation (AVM) of this patient’s upper lip by blocking off tangled blood vessels caused by the AVM and removing them before reconstructing the upper lip.

Cranial Reconstruction
Cranial Reconstruction

Three-dimensional surgical modeling helped our team, led by Dr. Dorafshar, to visualize the exact shape needed to rebuild and to find the best spot from this patient's skull to harvest the bone required for this cranial reconstruction after a brain tumor.

Dr.  Dorafshar worked with our neurointerventional radiology team, led by Dr. Monica Pearl, to visualize and block off (or "embolize") the big blood vessels of this arteriovenous malformation before trying to remove the AVM safely. The surgery was completed from the inside of her lip, so that she would be left with a “scar-less” result.

Mohs Surgery, Cheek Contour
Mohs Surgery, Cheek Contour

After undergoing Mohs surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma, this patient underwent plastic surgery to reconstruct the left side of her face. Dr. Dorafshar contoured her cheek by removing excess scar tissue and fat, and then closed the flap along the eyelid cheek junction and her nasolabial fold.

Dr. Dorafshar worked to perform a transfer of skin and fat, along with an innervated muscle taken from this patient’s thigh. After a childhood surgery for an arteriovascular malformation left his face asymmetrical and unable to smile, Dr. Dorafshar performed a transfer of skin and fat, along with an innervated muscle from his thigh, to reconstruct his facial symmetry and give him the ability to smile again.
