The craniofacial surgery fellowship is a joint program between the Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma. The fellowship is a one-year program for surgeons who have completed a plastic surgery residency. One fellow is accepted per year. Typically, 12 to 15 people apply.

Program goals

The goal of the craniofacial surgery fellowship is to provide the fellow with experience in the practice and techniques of facial reconstructive and plastic surgery. The fellow will work with surgeons in Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma, located in Baltimore, Maryland. When the fellow completes the one-year program, he or she will be experienced in the full range of craniofacial surgeries, including the face, jaw, and neck.

Prerequisites

Candidates for this fellowship must be board eligible at the beginning of the fellowship in one of the prerequisite specialties specified by the ACGME, such as plastic surgery. 

How to apply

We participate with the San Francisco Craniofacial Match Program (#412.67) and encourage applicants to complete the application materials provided by the American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons. We require two letters of recommendation from the directors of the program providing the applicant’s primary certification (such as oral, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, etc.) as well as two "free choice" letters of support, a copy of the applicant’s curriculum vitae, a personal statement and the applicant’s match number. Please also include performance statements from medical and/or dental schools and USMLE scores.
