Cochlear Implants: The Listening Center's Guide to Hearing Loss Treatment

It's natural to feel overwhelmed when you or your loved one is experiencing hearing loss - we're here to help.

Cochlear implant e-book cover

Hearing is much more than detecting sound: What we hear affects our ability to learn and how we perceive the world around us. In adults, severe hearing loss can have a negative impact on social interaction, job performance and overall health. In young children, severe hearing loss can pose a barrier to normal development of language and social skills.

The Johns Hopkins Listening Center has developed this guide for individuals who are hard of hearing or deaf and are considering cochlear implants. You may have questions such as:

  • "What will it sound like?
  • Am I a candidate for a cochlear implant?
  • What is surgery like?"

Find answers to these question in the e-book.
