Leading Orthopaedic Medicine Since 1900

About Johns Hopkins Orthopaedics

The Johns Hopkins Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was founded in 1900 by the forefather of Hopkins’ surgery, William Halsted, as one of the original specialty services. Ever since, we've been caring for patients, fostering innovation and nurturing orthopaedic leaders. Our experience has shaped aspects of orthopaedic surgery around the world, and continues to influence our clinic protocols, research discoveries and hands-on training of tomorrow’s physicians.
