There are many recognized genetic causes of kidney disease, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Mutations in COL4 (e.g., Alport Syndrome)
  • Tubulointerstitial kidney disease due to mutations in UMOD, MUC1, HNF1B, REN
  • Fabry disease
  • Tuberous sclerosis
  • Dent’s disease
  • Gitelman and Bartter syndromes
  • Metabolic disorders (e.g., Methylmalonic acidemia, mitochondrial disorders)
  • Ciliary disorders such as nephronophthisis
