There are many recognized genetic causes of kidney disease, including, but not limited to the following:
- Mutations in COL4 (e.g., Alport Syndrome)
- Tubulointerstitial kidney disease due to mutations in UMOD, MUC1, HNF1B, REN
- Fabry disease
- Tuberous sclerosis
- Dent’s disease
- Gitelman and Bartter syndromes
- Metabolic disorders (e.g., Methylmalonic acidemia, mitochondrial disorders)
- Ciliary disorders such as nephronophthisis
