Medicine-Pediatrics Urban Health Residency Program

Welcome from the Urban Health MP Leadership Team

Thank you for your interest in the combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (MP) Urban Health Residency Program at Johns Hopkins. Johns Hopkins Medicine is proud of our innovative MP program, which trains our residents as primary care physician leaders and advocates within vulnerable urban communities. Since our first class arrived in 2010, the MP program has prepared our graduates to care comprehensively for patients of all ages throughout the entire life cycle. Our graduates are not only great clinicians, but they have experienced our unique urban health curriculum which allows them to empathetically and expertly address the health needs, health disparities, and social determinants of health prevalent in our community. These experiences focus on topics such as mental health, carceral medicine, homelessness, community resources, addiction medicine, and HIV/HCV. As has been true of the graduates of all Johns Hopkins Hospital residency programs, our graduates are the future leaders of urban primary care on a local, state, and national levels. Diversity, inclusion, and antiracism are central values of our program. We strive to create a program with residents who have diverse experiences and who feel supported by our program and the institution. Dr. Talia Robledo-Gil serves as our director of diversity and inclusion and teaches about racism, implicit bias, and motivational interviewing. Your wellness is our top priority during residency. We provide administrative time, personal days for health appointments and self-care, and we even make appointments for mental health check-ins, PCP appointments, and dental appointments for our interns. We thoughtfully and intentionally build our UH and MP community. Since our first class graduated in 2014, we have already produced an impressive number of leaders in urban health primary care. We urge you to peruse our “Graduate Career” page. We look forward to meeting you, and please feel free to contact us with questions!
