Camp Sunrise

Camp Sunrise

WHEN:  July 28 - August 3, 2019

Camp Sunrise is a week long, overnight camp for pediatric oncology patients and survivors. At camp, we strive to provide children affected by cancer with a normal camping experience among their peers who have also experienced cancer treatment. Campers often say “Camp Sunrise is the best week of the year.” At Johns Hopkins, we believe kids should be kids — especially kids with cancer. Camp Sunrise helps to make that a reality.

Since its inception in 1986, Camp Sunrise has combined an exciting camp experience with professional medical support, which creates limitless opportunities for pediatric oncology patients to be normal kids again for a week. Amidst the camp fires, crafts, and sports and games, campers are given the chance to to establish strong peer relationships with others who have experienced cancer,  gain independence from the regimen of cancer treatment, and enhance self-confidence by trying new activities with camp friends, both new and old.

Hello from Camp Sunrise 2018!

Camp Sunrise is a week-long summer camp in Annapolis, Maryland, for children who have been diagnosed with or have survived cancer. Campers are given the opportunity to establish strong peer relationships with the other children they can relate to that are going through the same experiences and feelings as they are with their cancer treatment. At Camp Sunrise, campers also gain independence from the regimen of cancer treatment, and enhance their self-confidence by trying new activities offered while attending the camp.

Johns Hopkins Camp Sunrise

Camp Sunrise is held in early August in Annapolis, Maryland. The 187-acre campground has hiking trails throughout and boasts of its diverse ecosystems including wetlands, creeks, old growth trees, and forests. At the hub are rustic wood cabins, a health facility, dining hall and full kitchen, fully accessible pool, covered pavilions, basketball court, and large playing fields. Our unique environment allows patients and survivors to lean on each other, to share their thoughts and fears, and to come together with people who simply get it

Over the years, Camp Sunrise has been recognized for its commitment to providing patient campers with a safe, enjoyable, and stimulating camping experience. Camp Sunrise is accredited by the American Camp Association. This distinction validates that the camp has met all quality standards to ensure the health and safety of our campers.
