Educational NOVELA Videos

NOVELA (short for telenovela) videos are the backbone of a groundbreaking, research-backed program that uses telenovela-style videos — short, dramatic storytelling episodes — to educate and support family caregivers of older adults receiving hospice care. Developed by Dulce Cruz-Oliver, M.D. and team at Johns Hopkins, the videos address critical gaps in caregiver education by:

 

Teaching complex caregiving skills (e.g., pain management, CPR decisions) through relatable narratives.

Reducing caregiver anxiety by modeling self-efficacy and problem-solving in culturally resonant scenarios.

Focusing on underrepresented communities, with bilingual (English/Spanish) videos and culturally tailored content for ethnically diverse family caregivers.
