The rehabilitation team works with our patients to help each child reach his or her full potential, and participate in school and routine childhood activities to the greatest extent possible. We empower families by involving them directly in their child’s care and providing them with education and home exercises from the beginning of their child’s treatment.
Our patients need rehabilitation services for a variety of reasons. Medical conditions, injuries or illness can affect a child’s hearing, speech or motor skills, depending on the condition. Many children who are born prematurely or with special needs may also benefit from rehabilitation services.
After a serious illness or injury, children may lose some of the developmental skills they have already mastered. Our team of audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech and feeding therapists are experienced in working with children of all ages with a variety of conditions, including complex medical conditions.
In the Johns Hopkins All Children’s rehabilitation program you will find:
- Licensed clinicians who specialize in pediatrics and are experienced in working with children of all ages
- Direct family involvement in developing functional therapy goals
- Direct family participation in therapy sessions so families can learn to include therapeutic activities in everyday situations
- Close communication and collaboration with physicians, teachers, psychologists, school-based therapists and other professionals to maximize your child’s learning and development

Acute Care
We provide rehabilitation services to children who are receiving inpatient treatment in our hospital.

Audiology
We evaluate and treat children with hearing loss and hearing disorders to help them hear and communicate to the best of their ability. We also provide newborn hearing screening.

Occupational Therapy
We help children with a wide range of conditions, including major injuries or illness, gain independence in their daily activities to their highest levels of ability.

Physical Therapy
We provide treatment for children with problems affecting their musculoskeletal system, including chronic conditions, developmental delays or recovery from traumatic injuries or surgery.

Speech-Language and Feeding
We help children who have problems with speech and language, or feeding or swallowing issues, including newborns and children with complex medical conditions.
