About the Training Site

Sibley is a nonprofit, full-service, 318-bed, acute care community hospital serving the Washington, D.C. area. Our campus is also home to an assisted living residence, Grand Oaks, and the Sibley Renaissance, which houses our Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, Sibley Senior Services, skilled nursing care and a residential Alzheimer’s unit.

The hospital uses Epic, an electronic health record (EHR) system, for its medication management, nursing documentation and laboratory reporting. Epic is an integrated information system designed to support functions related to patient care, including registration and scheduling, clinical systems for doctors, nurses, emergency personnel and other care providers, systems for lab technicians, pharmacists and radiologists and billing systems for insurers.

Sibley also uses the Pyxis MedStation® system. This automated dispensing system enhances the distribution, management and control of medications. Each station communicates with the console in the central pharmacy at the time of access. All transaction information, including patient name, user name, the medication and quantity to be removed, is automatically recorded for accounting, restocking and billing purposes. Additionally, controlled substances are tracked using the Pyxis CIISafe™ system.

The Department of Pharmacy uses a Clinical Intervention Database within Epic for documenting, analyzing and reporting clinical interventions.
