First-Year Fellow

Jonathan Mitchell, MBBS MHS

Jonathan was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica where he received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies, Mona. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Howard University Hospital and earned his Master of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His clinical and research interests include early liver transplant for alcoholic liver disease, non-directed donation, and strategies to improve access to transplantation. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys motor sports, photography, rock climbing, and being a beach potato.
Jonathan Mitchell

Ronit Patnaik, MD

Ronit was raised in India and immigrated to the US in high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, where he also pursued a Surgical Education Fellowship through the Association for Surgical Education. His clinical interests include living donor liver transplant and robotics in transplantation. His research focuses on simulation in surgical education and on transplant outcomes, with particular emphasis on living donor liver transplantation. As a family member of a liver transplant recipient, Ronit is committed to patient advocacy through various venues, including the ASTS. Outside the hospital, he enjoys running, Boilermaker basketball, and spending quality time with his wife and energetic son.

Helene Rached, D.O.

Helene grew up in Westchester County, New York and graduated with a degree in biology from Siena College. She received her medical degree from UNE COM and completed general surgery residency at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Her clinical interests include global surgery, pediatric transplantation and the implementation of robotics in transplant. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys traveling, hiking, filling up her online shopping cart, short walks to the fridge, and spending time with her family.
