During Your Hospital Stay

Suburban Hospital offers an Inpatient Diabetes Management Service (IDMS), which is a special diabetes clinical consultation service designed to promote better glycemic (blood sugar levels) control and reduce hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and glucose-related safety challenges in hospitalized patients. This unique program is modeled after a successful IDMS at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where it has improved the care of people living with diabetes and decreased patients' length of stay. The service allows the hospital to tailor care for patients that accommodates their diabetes, as well as identify previously undiagnosed cases. This is essential for providing optimal care.

IDMS is currently providing this service in all patient-care areas of the hospital. Any inpatient who has difficulty managing blood glucose levels or is on an insulin pump can be seen by the diabetes specialist. Physicians and nurses can request an endocrinology consult as well.
