Graduating from the Hopkins CCM residency was the most impactful and important step I have taken throughout my career in critical care medicine — the depth and breadth of training it offered continues to shape the nature of my work every day, and it provided opportunities for growth I never would have had with any amount of ‘on the job’ training elsewhere. Even 10 years later, it’s the best decision I’ve made as a PA and as a critical care clinician.

The Johns Hopkins Critical Care PA Residency was transformative for my career. It provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge and technical skills, enabling me to excel in high-acuity environments like the CVICU at Stanford. I completed the Critical Care PA Residency Program in 2013. Without the knowledge and experience I gained during the program, I would not have the career I have today. After completion of the program, I remained at the Bayview campus of Johns Hopkins and worked in the SICU. During my time, I taught and mentored many PA residents and trained new hires into the SICU. I further developed the PA residency academic curriculum as the education coordinator. I have since moved on to a new position with MedStar Health where I created a new staffing model for a community ICU, which transitioned from a resident staffed unit to an advanced practice staffed unit. My experience in the residency allowed me to train a staff of 12 APPs to deliver outstanding care in the local community. I know my successful career path stemmed from the Critical Care PA Residency program, and would encourage anyone looking to be a leader in critical care to do the same.
