Meet Our Program Director

Michael Velaetis PA-C, MS
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Towson University and his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the CCBC Essex-Towson University program in 2011. He practiced critical care medicine at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center and joined The Johns Hopkins Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) in 2015. He transitioned to his role of program director in 2026.
Michael currently practices critical care medicine within the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Oncology ICU at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and serves as the director of ultrasound education for the Biocontainment Unit (BCU) in The Johns Hopkins Special Pathogens Center.
His clinical interests include clinical education, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), advanced vascular access, and the resuscitation of critically ill patients. He is also a dedicated advocate for improving communication within the ICU environment to support both patients and their families.
