Pediatric Neuro Radiology and Fetal Imaging Advance Training Specialty Program (ASTP) Information

ASTP Program Description

Program Director: Melike Guryildirim, M.D.

  1. The fellowship is an intensive 12-month clinical fellowship training in Advanced Pediatric Radiology focusing on pediatric neuroradiology and fetal imaging. 
  2. Fetal imaging emphasis will be MR imaging of central nervous system disorders in fetuses. Fellow will be trained on running the protocol in the scanner, supervising the technologist, interpretation of the exam, consultation and making the report. 
  3. Pediatric neuroradiology emphasis will be proper utilization of ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging including advanced techniques for all pediatric age groups from neonates to young adults including but not limited to congenital malformations, seizure, tumor, trauma, stroke, infectious/inflammatory diseases, neuro-immunological diseases, metabolic diseases of the central nervous system.  
  4. Program also includes a 4-week elective which can be coordinated with the emergency department, fetal therapy program, pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit. 
  5. Actively participate and present in multidisciplinary conferences with pediatric neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, fetal program and vascular anomalies.
  6. Protocol CT and MR exams and triage patients to proper studies. 
  7. Function as independent consultant. 
  8. Undertake an active role as a teacher and role model to medical students and radiology residents. 
  9. Review and dictate exams in a timely and efficient manner. 


 Criteria for Acceptance of Trainees

  1.  USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3 
  2. ECFMG Certified, if graduate of a foreign medical school 
  3. ABR certification (preferred) 
  4. Completed a Radiology residency 
  5. 1 year of Pediatric Radiology and/or 1 year of Neuroradiology Fellowship training or Pediatric Radiology subspecialty certification pathway
  6. High quality verbal and written communication skills in English 
  7. 3 letters of Recommendation (1 preferable from previous Program Director) 
  8. Applicant able to secure a Maryland Medical License
