Parking Lot and Garage Improvements Underway

Parking lots and garages at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center will be upgraded to a ticketless payment system that uses license plate recognition technology. The goal of streamlining the payment process is to improve the parking experience for patients, visitors and staff.

Construction: What to Expect

Construction at parking lots and garages will be staggered to help reduce disruption. You may notice:

  • Lane shifts or temporary lane closures
  • Changes to parking entry or exit routes
  • Increased traffic around some garages or lots
  • Construction fencing, equipment or marked work areas
  • Parking staff or flaggers helping direct traffic

Please drive slowly, follow posted signs and allow extra time for parking.

Patient Support During Construction

To help make parking as easy as possible during construction, we will have:

Project Timeline

  • Alpha Commons: Sep. 7– Sep. 24

New Ticketless System: How It Works

  1. Quick entry
When you arrive, drive slowly toward the gate. The system will read your license plate and open the gate automatically. No ticket is needed.
  2. Park Your Vehicle
Find a parking spot and head to your appointment. Be sure to note your license plate number. On the way, you will see signs with QR codes you can scan to register your license plate. The new technology will measure length of stay.
  3. Pay After Your Visit
    Payment can be made by:
    • Scanning a payment QR code using a smartphone before you leave.
    • Using a pay-on-foot terminal and entering your car’s license plate number.
    • Paying at the exit gate, if payment has not already been completed.
  4. Smooth Exit
When you leave, the gate will recognize your license plate. If you have already paid, you can exit automatically. If not, you can pay at the exit.
